11/19/2006 1:38:46 AM
I finally managed to sell mine, but had to drop the BIN to $1040. I'm just glad I didn't camp out to get one, it wouldn't have been worth it.
11/19/2006 1:43:26 AM

11/19/2006 5:46:01 PM
I guess the bubble busted already. haha. as for me, i'll wait a year until the price drops and all the bugs get worked out, and better games come out.
11/19/2006 9:25:52 PM
i love how no one in this thread has actually talked about playing the system. fuck sony
11/20/2006 2:43:22 AM

Yeah, so I'm keeping mine for the time being. Around Christmas time if the price goes back up I might sell, but I am having a lot of fun with this system. Resistence is a whole lot of fun, and I downloaded some demos, including Motorstorm which is defintely the most fun racing game I've ever played.I watched the blue ray movie it came with (Talledega Nights) and the quality was just awesome. It was in true 1080p an looked fantastic. The downloadable games are very fun too. Cash Guns Chaos is like a 2006 version of Smash TV, and it runs in 1080p and its surprisingly fun and addictive. I'll probably get that since its just $10.Other than that, there aren't too many games, so its not the most amazing thing in the world, but I am enjoying it a lot. I think as more games come out and the developers get more time with the dev kits and all that, its going to be an incredible system.
11/20/2006 10:10:54 AM
I played one at ebgames, kinda meh. They said it had already overheated 3 times, bugs like whoa.
11/20/2006 10:29:58 AM
^The only one that I have seen was at an ebgames. It was dead but they killed it by putting it in a small plastic display case. I'm sure that if it overheated in the case it would overheat in my TV cabinet though.
11/20/2006 10:41:30 AM
I've been playing Resistance Co-op and having a fun time. Too bad we dont have an HDTV 8(
11/20/2006 10:46:40 AM
mine hasn't even felt hot, and it is super quiet. The only reason why they are heating up where they are displayed is because they are in those tiny cases with no air circulation (which is pretty stupid on Sony's part to ship those out like that). I haven't heard of any one's retail system heating up or having any bus, except for the 97.5% backwards compatibility, which is pretty darn good if you really think about it.By the way, I called it. This is from this topic on 10/18:
11/20/2006 10:47:28 AM
played one all weekend, i'm really impressed so far. It runs super quiet, and cool. The unit I played was on for about 72 hours straight, and no bugs whatsoever to report. Games I played:Resistance - Looks pretty good, plays great. I'm impressed with the enemy AI as you progress further into the game. AWESOME multiplayer, no lag whatsoever in 40 player games. I'll be playing this for a while.NBA2k7 - fun bball game, good graphics. You can use the controller to 'shoot' free throws (motion sensing), it was actually pretty fun.Ridge Racer 7 - Standard Ridge Racer fare, looks good, fast, online is fun.Tony Hawk - booooringggg... trash.Marvel ultimate alliance - fun, but not great.Blast Factor - an obvious clone, but a very fun one imho. The graphics are actually really nice with this, I spent a long time playing it after I 'enhanced' the visuals.I've got a 60GB in hand, I'm debating whether or not to keep it... The way prices have plummetted on eBay, I'm not sure if/how much they will bounce back. I want to keep the system unless I can make a cool $1000 profit on it.Also, pretty cool how people are already running Linux on it w/emulators + such.
11/20/2006 11:11:10 AM
if you already have one, what's the point of keeping the other regardless of how much profit you make on it?
11/20/2006 11:32:28 AM
^ Its like the stock market. Taking a chance on the price going back up.
11/20/2006 11:41:13 AM
jews
11/20/2006 11:42:26 AM
^^^ I don't already own one. I said I spent the weekend playing one (my friend's). It's a nice system and I want to open mine badly, but I like money just as much.
11/20/2006 11:51:33 AM
There is a possibility that it will go up in price again come close to Christmas time. That is only if Sony doesn't have a large shipment before Christmas. I doubt Sony will get out as many PS3's by Christmas as Nintendo had on launch day (which was pretty much a sellout), so it will balloon again.
11/20/2006 11:55:41 AM
First of all, apostrophes don't pluralize. Secondly, you should most definitely sell your PS3 now. This is all based on the xbox 360 experience last year. Prices dropped RAPIDLY and QUICKLY.
11/20/2006 11:57:51 AM
^^^oiccarry on then
11/20/2006 12:03:14 PM
^^I'm afraid it's not that simple. I think the ebay supply will be drying up a good bit in the next week or 2, which should cause a surge in prices. It's just so damn hard having the thing sitting in my room, unopened.
11/20/2006 12:13:57 PM
Prices will continue to fall as long as Sony has a decent supply of PS3s coming in before now and Christmas. I do not give Sony this much credit.
11/20/2006 12:28:21 PM
look at it one of 2 ways. 1. sony provides a large amount of new shipments and they dont become as rare. you lost your chance.2. sony only comes out with a few extras and those all go straight to ebay. you still havent gained anything.you might get a SLIGHT boost around xmas, by last minute desperate people, but you arent going to be getting 2k for the thing most likely.
11/20/2006 12:36:35 PM
there is a window in there somewhere, though. I'm figuring a lot of these fly-by-night PS3 resellers bought one w/the intention of reselling before the bill shows up. That means a lot will be gone by this time next week. Also, a lot of ppl are panicking and unloading their PS3 now. Then, all you gotta do is get yours on eBay before the next big shipment (if there IS one).I think 2k will be achievable inside of this window.
11/20/2006 12:44:48 PM
^This is the exact same shit people said last year.
11/20/2006 12:49:27 PM
i talked to some guys at eb and they both talked about how they crash about once an hour and the hdmi cable only works half the time...i would sell asap if you have one.
11/20/2006 1:03:47 PM
^ Like I said earlier, anything generating heat is going to over heat and most likely crash when it's in that air tight demo case they have at EB. Give it a rest. I have been using it for days without a problem, and the HDMI is awesome. 1080p is fantastic. No problems at all here or with anyone else I've been in contact with that has one.
11/20/2006 3:04:46 PM
The one at Best Buy only crashed once in the 3 days. Its case is ventilated at the bottom too (no holes near the top).
11/20/2006 3:08:56 PM
I havent heard of one of these not crashing. My Launch 360 still hasnt crashed to date.
11/20/2006 3:20:18 PM
^ so have you not been reading this topic, because a few of us have stated that ours has not crashed. I can't believe how many people just want to put a negative spin on their rival video game console. Who cares? They are probably all going to be great systems.
11/20/2006 3:47:57 PM
I was just making a comment...while were at it...NY Times gives the ps3 a negative review http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/20/arts/20game.html
11/20/2006 4:14:08 PM
11/20/2006 5:06:00 PM
Oh noes, only 17,500 systems left on Ebay!
11/20/2006 6:15:42 PM
only ~4,500 60giggers
11/20/2006 7:10:43 PM
My friend who lives in CH called up gamestop yesterday to see if any PS3s had "fallen through the cracks". One did and he got it. That is nuts.
11/20/2006 10:05:57 PM
^hopefully he's selling it since all i've heard are bad things from anyone who has spent lots of time with a ps3
11/20/2006 10:31:58 PM
played the ps3 demo unit at Target, was some offroad game, no clue what the name was, but I kept looking at it saying to myself, "this is Hi-Def?"
