OK, I totally do NOT understand what is going on with my game now. The stuttering has gotten increasingly worse, and I still have yet to figure out why. I downloaded the latest nVidia drivers, and that didn't help a bit. I am noticing that my "busy" light on the front of my PC is going crazy more often than not, which leads me to believe that my HDD is seeking/loading something. I just don't know, but I am getting REALLY pissed off about it, particularly since the demo ran so damned well. Anyone else have any more creative suggestions?
6/29/2005 6:59:47 AM
^Sounds like the CPU is swaping memory al lot. How much memory (RAM) do you have?Did it run smoothly and then decide to stutter (full version only)? You might need to simply reinstall if that is the case. Defragging sometimes helps but I still have to go with lack of memory on this one.
6/29/2005 7:35:00 AM
Have you updated your chipset drivers?
6/29/2005 8:14:11 AM
^^ No, I definitely don't believe it's RAM. I have a gig of DDR4300, so I feel pretty confident that that's not the case.I am starting to wonder if perhaps this might be some sort of legacy problem with my DVD-ROM. I don't recall if I have my ROM or my burner as the slave on the ribbon, but I'll need to check that.^ And tell me more about updating the chipset drivers, please?
6/29/2005 4:41:12 PM
what kind of motherboard/processor do you have?Once I know that I can better inform you. Also, BF2 runs infinitely better on 2gb of RAM as opposed to 1.The footprint for BF2 alone is almost at 775MB.

jimb0 stfu n00b, this game is great You need to get on when I'm on and we can form a squad and pwn. It's much more fun when you play with a couple people you know and form a squad together.

yeah i was kind of hoping nobody would read my post. i havent even played the game past the options screen. but it's their fault for not having a working 'invert mouse' option.

I think you underestimate just how much more computing power is necessary at 1600x1200.I'm super pleased that I'm running 1280x... with everything turned up high and 6x AA.I have to say, that just like BF1942 liked 1 gb of ram, BF2 really likes 2.Turn off your pagefile if you have 2gb.
6/30/2005 7:25:23 PM
Well I don't expect it to do AA at that resolution, but I do expect it to be able to run clip free, at least for the most part.Yeah 2gb is coming, but DDR533 or whatever, is still pretty $$ so I might wait for a bit[Edited on June 30, 2005 at 7:43 PM. Reason : .]

lol i run this game on 768MB RAM with no paging file and it flies on high settings for me.

all i know is that it works and plays quite nicely for me.
6/30/2005 8:06:59 PM
OK. What is everyones typical game playout.I always go for the Attack Helicopter if its avaliable(and pray for a gunner who knows how to hit something). If its being used by someone who isnt a moron, I will be and engineer and lay mines and shit. What about U guys?[Edited on June 30, 2005 at 10:08 PM. Reason : ,l]

jets if I'm on a pub server with nobody thats in my squad. If I'm in a squad I hop in a buggy with them and go kill people. Simple really.Bang bang click click shit.
6/30/2005 11:00:23 PM
i still haven't figured out what i enjoy the most or what i'm best at. i guess i mainly go back and forth between assault and medic. and sometimes spec ops or just be a commander, lie low, give orders, and lead my team to victory. i can't fly, never really tried, so i just stay away from jets and choppers.
6/30/2005 11:14:13 PM
Well, of all the stupid things to have to do, I turned antialiasing completely off and the chop almost magically went completely away. I refuse to believe that 2x AA could cause this much of a commotion... but at least it's back to being playable now.And speaking of playable, the very first thing I go for in a game is the fighter bomber. I have come to completely LOVE the pure hell that you can unleash with one. I just played 3 rounds of Dalian Plant a few minutes ago, and I had a total of 91 points all from bomb kills (well, I did have 5 dogfighting kills). I have definitely gotten a hell of a lot better with target recognition and knowing when and where to drop to get the most out of a pass. I must have infuriated a guy in the last round I played, because I was quick enough to make a pass on a Cobra pad, afterburn back home for a reload, and then hit the pad again. I killed that poor guy 5 times in a row the same way just as he was taking off. Oh yeah, and I always create my own squad - Wardog Squad. (Points for you if you get the reference.) I am constantly asking the Commander which targets need to be hit.Barring a fighter bomber on a map, though, I seem to wind up being Special Forces more often than not so that I can destroy enemy artillery.
7/1/2005 12:23:39 AM
Medic all the way. I've always been more of a support player. I usually join a squad if I can find a decent one or start my own, then let the grunts do the fighting. I just cover their ass and shock them if they die. Sometimes I'll go engineer but IMO the shotgun is way underpowered and pretty much useless. I miss the mortar kits from BFV for engineers and the M14, which was a great rifle then.If I'm defending a base by myself I'll go Spec Ops so I can take out any armor that rolls in. Other than that, I tend to stay away from the other kits and air vehicles. I'll occassionally fly a helo if I need to get somewhere fast or I'm bored.
7/1/2005 9:19:16 AM
i enjoy shooting down dumb pilots of heli's and planes with the APC's and tanks...
7/1/2005 5:16:54 PM
Fucking hell, my friend came over and I let him play BF2 on my acct. It was like 2am and he was like "i'm gona play 1 more round and im gona go."So I go to bed, wake up at 9am and his still on my PC playing BF2.My ladder position just went to hell, I was in the #500s, now I'm #731 of 347,000 ranked players on ladder. He got 200 kills and over 350 deaths
7/1/2005 6:26:41 PM
I refuse to play ranked servers.
7/1/2005 10:08:10 PM
yeah just bought it, fucking love itgetting spawn killed really really bites though because of the added 15s wait.Just got my basic armour award actually so I'm quite enjoying it.

Saw some very interesting things last night. I did finally see the IFF bug that people have been talking about. Some guy in a PLA uniform walked right up to me and shot me in the face after I stared at his blue nametag for a second. I guess that's what I get for not shooting upon uniform recognition.I have to say that I have become a huge fan of the USMC shotgun after dealing out some very impressive kills. I've become so used to the Halo shotgun where you have to be right in someone's face to get a guaranteed 1-shot kill, that the BF2 shotgun is a pleasant surprise for me.But what really drove me crazy, though, was this one bastard flying the J-10 who shot me down 6 times in a row. I was flying the F-15, and no matter WHAT I did, I absolutely could NOT lose this guy. I wish I had a recording of it, because it was so infuriating that I was just seeing red. I did learn that, eventually, if you chain enough crazy maneuvers, your plane will go into a flat spin or just outright lose control. Only thing you can do then is to bail out and hope you're inside the boundary. I just cannot understand how that MOTHERFUCKER managed to stay right behind me no matter what I did, though. I'd love to know what he was doing. There has simply got to be some better way of avoiding/turning the tables on an enemy fighter, and I feel like an airbrake would be a good potential solution. What I used to love about flying in T2 was that whenever some smartass would come flying after my bomber, I'd turn tail and head back towards the nearest automated AA turret and just watch it eat him to shreds. Hell, in the Renegades mod, I'd even build a little AA campsite in the countryside and waypoint it so that if I got into trouble, I'd just head for that and know that my gun emplacements would cover me. There's no such advantage in BF2, though...
7/2/2005 8:34:33 PM
yeah people have become exceedingly efficient in the jets and heli's. I tried for fucking ever to shoot this guy out of the air, but no matter how many locks I got he always evaded.
7/2/2005 8:40:37 PM
I love the planes, once you figure them out it is very difficult to get shot down. Now I am trying to figure out the helo's, they are a bit more tough.

^^Not true, was able to play at 1600x1200 with medium/low settings with my older computer, and it was a whole lot slower p4 2.8...and I was just running a x800xt agp then.
7/3/2005 2:30:28 AM
I keep hearing ppl saying heli is harder to fly than jets. Helicopters are easier imo. Most ppl think jets are easier. Yes, they are easier to fly and not crash, but its a much high learning curve to be good at flying a jet and getting enough kills to generate enough points. Keep in mind because you're flying a jet you will not get Teamwork points at all. With helicopter, you can still capture flags. Sometimes enemy does not have enough air assets for your jet's appetite so you need to be proficient at bombing and hitting stinger sites with your vulcan cannon. To use the vulcan cannon correctly on a land target, you must climb to high altitude then dart down at your target so you can land sufficient amount of hits.[Edited on July 3, 2005 at 2:55 AM. 7/3/2005 11:47:34 AM
^^Jets can capture flags, if you are good enough to use the hover feature on the US jets.
7/3/2005 5:24:37 PM
^ That is not practical. Hovering leaves the jet too exposed to enemy fire. Helicopters is more ideal since the gunner has 180 degree firing arc with the cannon. But jet can only fire in front in straight line.

becoming proficient in the planes has taken quite a long time in DC, and if they wanted to preserve the jets' nature in bf2 they failed. The J-10 is a quick little shit of a plane in this game, I have trouble getting them down.A lot of pilots are to afraid of getting shot down so they just fly over the nme runway and try to pickup easy takeoff kills. They never bomb or shoot up spawn points that go grey which is the easiest way to get kills in the jet imo. The jet is the quickest responder on the field to a flag that was yours that just went grey. Make sure your buddies know that you're coming and just strafe the hell out of the flagpole.
7/4/2005 7:53:47 AM
Does anyone know about the crash to desktop bug, and why it happens? It's legit copy, but I AM using the reloaded nocd patch. It's kind of random, and only happens on lan play, not internet.
7/4/2005 4:31:38 PM
^^ I don't find the flight characteristics of planes THAT different from DC. Major difference is the homing missiles in BF2. In DC, you had to be pretty skilled to shoot down other planes since the missiles in DC wasn't homing (more like rockets). But good pilots can evade missiles rather easily in BF2. The missiles in BF2 pretty much have to come from right behind you to hit the plane. You just need to adjust your angle perpendicular to the vector of the missiles and it'll fly right past you and miss. When someone is on my tail, best way to get rid of them is to put on afterburner and do a loop, and nearing the end of the loop (I should be out of enemy's sight, but they are still following the white tail thingies behind me) I slow down fast as possible and watch them speed past me, then I get on their tail and fire my missiles.
7/4/2005 10:43:28 PM
with some of the anti-air emplacements in BF2 air power is negated somewhat.... i'd still like to see an option on the anti-armor class for a stinger or somthing....
