gave up 19 runs in a 3-game series last week against the Redscan't let that happen againAND, we only have a 3 game lead on the Expos for best record in the NLtime to go on a tear

I think Chris Carpenter just put himself in contention for the Cy Young with his amazing June. 4-1 with a 0.90 ERA. That's amazing. Here are the early leaders.Name ERA Record StrikeoutsRoger Clemens 1.50 6-3 104Dontrelle Willis 2.04 12-3 85Chris Carpenter 2.60 12-4 121Yes, there are a few other guys that have a shot depending on what they do second half (Smoltz, Martinez...) but I just threw up the top 3 (IMO) as a reference point. Carpenter's stats are quite competitive. Obviously if the Cy Young was decided only on ERA, Clemens would win, but W/L record is also heavily looked at. I'm sure if the season ended today, he wouldn't have a snowball's chance to win, but with a few more June-like months, maybe Chris can finally bring home another Cy Young award to the Cards.

I dont think he can keep the current pace he's been on the past month and a half but he's definitely capable of winning it. In my mind, he is the frontrunner for the Cy right now. If Dontrelle struggles in his next game, I'm not sure Carpenter doesn't start in the All-Star game. He's been that good. He's also the ace of the best team in the NL meanwhile the Fish are fading quickly.
7/2/2005 10:42:54 AM
^^plus he just threw 7 2/3 scoreless last night - looks like his July is off to a pretty good start too
7/2/2005 1:03:19 PM
LaRussa will start Carpenter....no doubt in my mindand how about Eck getting the start at SS for the All Star game? 3 (possibly 4) starters this year
7/2/2005 1:16:14 PM
Damn who woulda thought 3 Cards would start and fuckin Pujols isnt one! I still think Lee won't keep this up and Pujols finally wins the MVP which has deserved the last 3 years.
7/3/2005 11:58:27 PM
should be an INTERESTING second half

DAMN THAT WAS GORGEOUS!!!!!!i love the suicide squeeze. one of the prettiest strategies in all of baseball
7/7/2005 12:18:58 AM
oh my fucking god I love itI was just like "hit it to the outfield hit it to the outfield hit it to the outfield" and then bam out of the blue. I bet the d-backs were just as surprised as I was. Also I don't like that people have just started calling it the "squeeze play." The suicide squeeze is one of the greatest names for any play in all sports.[Edited on July 7, 2005 at 12:21 AM. Reason : .]

7/7/2005 11:41:56 PM
again, it comes down to the 9th inningtoo bad we have Mabry, Nunez and Luna due upwell, single by Mabry....good startLaRussa leaving Marquis in to pitch the 10th...strikes out with Mabry on 3rd base[Edited on July 8, 2005 at 12:19 AM. Reason : ,]
7/8/2005 12:14:12 AM
WTF, Tony???he lets Marquis stay in to bat with 2 down/man on 3rd in the 9th....then he yanks him for Ray King to pitch the bottom of the 9th tied 1-1i don't get it especially when he has Taguchi and others on the bench to pinch hit[Edited on July 8, 2005 at 12:25 AM. Reason : ,]
7/8/2005 12:24:28 AM
LEAVE IN MARQUIS NEXT TIME ASSHOLEI FUCKING HATE FATASS RAY KING
7/8/2005 12:27:06 AM
It's because Marquis is a damn good hitter. He had like a substantial hitting streak last year if I recall correctly, and I'm pretty sure his average is over .300In fact I think I heard Peter Gammons say his OPS is higher than Jim Edmonds'[Edited on July 8, 2005 at 12:28 AM. Reason : ah fuck]
7/8/2005 12:27:47 AM
i remember that too, but he looked damn silly up there in the 9thI'd like a PH next time, Tony.that could have been the ball game
7/8/2005 9:47:33 AM
Just saw on Cold Pizza Carpenter's starting the all-star game.
7/11/2005 8:48:10 AM

7/17/2005 4:28:52 PM
no pedroschilling still ain't what he wasnot quite the same offensive powerI'D LIKE TO SEE THAT WORLD SERIES MATCHUP PLAYED TODAY!
7/17/2005 5:30:19 PM
^^He's been Santana-like this year. Dominating and unhittable. I even looked up his last 15 games to compare it to Santana's second half last year and they're quite similar. Santana 15GS 13-0 104.3IP 129K 1.21ERA 0CGCarpenter 15GS 11-3 112.3IP 122K 1.92ERA 3CGCan anyone say Cy Young?
7/17/2005 5:51:34 PM
I would say he is defnitely the front runner at this point.Maybe I have my "red blinders" on though.
7/17/2005 7:00:06 PM
