"Hawk tuah" is an onomatopoeia for coughing up & spitting phlegm.[Edited on June 24, 2024 at 7:23 AM. Reason : indefinite article]

Thank you. Need the clearing action be a cough, though?
6/24/2024 8:25:15 AM
I guess not, you could snort instead. I guess it depends on how you wanna source the phlegm. Could be a snort. I guess more accurately, the "hawk" part is an onomatopoeia for clearing your throat in a way that may rise to the level of a cough but does not necessarily constitute a cough.
6/24/2024 8:41:38 AM
I always though it was “hock”
6/24/2024 11:08:33 AM
I too thought it was hock.
6/24/2024 12:36:10 PM
It's def hock
6/24/2024 1:23:41 PM
They're taking considerable artistic license here.
6/24/2024 1:58:51 PM
I prefer "hock" but recognize "hawk" as a variant.
6/24/2024 3:48:51 PM
I think the meme generation was done phonetically but they should have consulted an elder millennial I guess 'hock a loogie' isn't a term with the kids these days maybe
6/24/2024 4:55:25 PM
Hawk might be more phonetically correct than hock, given her southern accent
6/24/2024 5:38:34 PM
She sounds dumb.
