The movie doesn't outright reference anything or anyone in the current news, or even mention political parties or which factions in the movie are the "good" or "bad" guys, but there are some subtle implications if you read between the lines. The type of person that would get excited about the prospects is likely not intelligent enough to pick up on those implications though...

Extremely well done movie all around. Very intense and gory at parts.

I think one of the points is there is no good guy in a civil war. Everyone is doing evil things. It’s inherently unstable and indeterminate.
