By opening price, do you mean IPO price?

These are not healthy things to think about.

Why don't you balance it by thinking about going in big on an early 2000s dotcom high flier that ended up going bankrupt?

Yes, you know that NOW.

This is survivorship bias. It's easy to say what you should have done after decades of market history have played out, but you don't know this at the point of initial investment, nor do you know how long to hold and when might be the optimal time to take profits.

So, you should balance your perspective with the companies that seemed like a sure thing which you might similarly have invested in, but which instead went belly-up.

Don't live in the past, bro. Just look for the next Facebook stock or the next BTC. But probably don't look for the next BTC bc crytpo is a scam.

Intel took a pretty big hit recently
feels like a good time to buy

I know everyone loves Nvidia but Intel makes GPUs for corporate data centers... just sayin'

I don't know anything about anything, but I wouldn't put too many eggs in Intel's basket. They lost most of Apple's business when Apple introduced the M1 SoC a few years ago. Then they hired one of Apple's technical directors (who was actually going BACK to Intel). Then Nvidia says they're gonna make some ARM CPUs, too. And Intel's CEO says eh, we're not too worried about ARM.

Seems like these ARM platforms could eat Intel's lunch even in data centers. ARM's got better TDP, and a big concern for data centers is power consumption.

Maybe I'm an idiot. I doubt x86 is going to take a dramatic turn. But I don't see how it grows with new ARM platforms displacing it.

I'm keen on them for other reasons

I had prob $2-3k in NFLX back then, prob around 2007 or maybe 2008. I made a 10x return, cashed out around 2011, watched the stock crater within weeks, and felt really good about that play.

If I had kept it, though, it would be worth 200x or more.
