I will say this though. As a parent of two children, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to be efficient enough to filter all that shit out. It’s going to be tough. Laws like this are rooted in good intentions.

I’ve always championed an xxx domain. That way you can filter them all out with just one rule.

And sure, you can make the argument that they’re going to find it anyway, no matter what I do, but I’d like for their first rodeo with adult material to NOT be some someone getting hammered by 5 dudes at the same time.

They make software specifically for parents to block their children's access to all kinds of adult websites so you don't have to create a bunch of specific firewall rules. Or you can use that Mike Johnson software and you and your kid can monitor each other's porn watching habits together.

If I were to give any advice, from the perspective of someone who "kinda" grew up with the net. This is in general, not specific to what you're talking about.

The best thing you can do is keep them so busy with real life activities that they don't spend too much time on the internet. That, and no smartphone till they're at least 15/16. The smartphone is the real killer. All the typing skills, whatever, someone needs to learn are all done on a PC, a phone has nothing to offer.

Software and whatever... personally my parents used none, they might be good for when they're like under 11 so they don't accidentally get anywhere, but after that, not much of a point.

The key is prevention, and prevention is in building a resolute character, someone who chooses not to do certain things, not because they're told not to, but because they don't want to, and it's what they hold honorable to themselves. Rebellious kids are good, I never listened to my parents for things they didn't know about, but you need to ensure that they develop their own sense of accountability. I've seen kids who have had parents who tried to force things, and the kids turn out weak.
