I don't know realistically how many pre-Facebook posts of any sensitivity actually exist here. We've had a few incidents that resulted in lots of posts/threads being completely lost. If you look for Chit Chat threads I created, they jump from 2002 to 2008, and I promise you I made plenty in between.

interesting. how does that technically work?

like I'd think in my head that some deletion issue would cause all threads between two dates to be deleted

but since there are still other posts from 2002-2008, how could that happen

I don't know the details, but I think every thread that didn't have a post after a certain date got deleted.

If you go to the Lounge and click on the last page of threads, the stalest threads--meaning the ones who have the oldest last posts--all had their last posts in 2005. That's obviously bunk, because there were plenty of threads that lived and died in 2004, in 2003, in 2002, etc. They're just gone.

Yet some threads made in those years still exist. The Lounge still has the original perpetual drunkenness thread, which was created in January 2001. But that thread had regular posts through the years, so it escaped whatever happened. I don't know if it was an intentional purge or just someone fucking up a database command or what.
