I recently finished my first playthrough of the new Final Fantasy and liked it quite a bit. Has anyone else played it or at least tried the demo?

It's definitely not an RPG like prior entries, more like a light character action game. Like Devil May Cry with fewer combos. But it's (in my opinion) Final Fantasy through and through in terms of story, music, and characters.

Is it better than XV?

I really enjoyed XVI and played through it twice. I don't think it's better than XV per se, but they are very different games.

I saw you mention the Game of Thrones influence and misery porn in the XV thread. Those elements are light. Yes, there is a lot of cursing; there is at least one instance of dismemberment; and there is an implied, imminent sexual assault; but that stuff is way overstated in previews and reviews.

I can't say it's much of an RPG, though. You never make a direct decision that affects the story, though that's typical Final Fantasy. It plays a lot more like a Devil May Cry game. But it's a Final Fantasy game through and through.
