While what happened with these beagles is incredibly sad, in my experience breed-specific rescues are intolerable and often have ridiculous requirements and adoption fees in order to gatekeep who gets a dog.

TBR isn't bad. The adoption fee is 300 for a normal aged dog, 350 for a puppy, and 250 for a senior. They get the dogs straightened out medically prior to being put up for adoption. Their requirements are basically a somewhat stable home life and that you either fence or walk the dog on a leash. In other words, don't let a damned nose dog follow its nose without a leash.

Some of the dogs they get are in pretty rough shape, and cost quite a bit to get healthy, which is where some of the fee goes. The rest of it goes to the spaying/neutering, and first rounds of prevention/shots.

IME this means they refuse to give dogs to people in apartments as well as anyone they just don't like. Basically they only "adopt" out to what they consider perfect homes and won't grant you the privilege of one of their dogs if your situation is only very good and not perfect.
