yeah I bet most employees want to share a desk during a plague
so what if the current science says surface contact is not likely a transmission vector for THIS one
germs are fucking everywhere and people are thinking about that now

a move toward something like hot desking is tone deaf as fuck right now (at least call it hoteling)
how about expand the WFH options?

and if you just tell them and expect them to deal with it you should expect to deal with a bunch of sand bagging while people look for better jobs

WFH aka now we feel more comfortable making demands of you at any time because your work and home lives are harder to separate now.

I for one like home and work having a stark dividing line.

[Edited on April 18, 2021 at 9:20 AM. Reason : And it shouldn’t be yet another burden on me to create that divide. But hooray, you can work in PJs]

I can see it going to a shared desk/office model. If I have 100 employees who work from home and only have to come to work 1-2 days a week why do I need to have 100 offices sitting at 20% capacity at any given time collecting dust, being air conditioned, cleaned, etc.

Where I'm at space was at such a premium we moved the Accounting and HR departments to a new suite miles away from campus as there wasn't enough room in our buildings for all them (we do have some office space available but not 1:1 people:desk ratio). Realistically now we could not end the lease on that suite off campus, have them continue to work remotely and then they can come in on a rotation and use that shared office space. HR already does this since the majority of employees are on campus. There is almost no need to ever have accounting back in the office. It would save the school money, which was in the red a bit anyways and give those employees the ability to be flexible about work from home or work on campus. I personally see no issue with it and would like to make it an option for my team as well.
