Get fresh seafood at Outland Seafood in Mann's Harbor on the way in
Lighthouses
Drive over that new Basnight Bridge crossing the Oregon Inlet -- and just before it on your left if you access the beach to drive (4x4 required) and hang a right you'll run into a modern shipwreck on the beach. It's neat.
Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras
Wright Brothers monument is interesting
Visit Diggers Dungeon in Poplar Branch to look at monster trucks
Get an off road pass and drive around on the Hatteras National Seashore
Get a sandwich at Sugar Shack, a restaurant and seafood market
Go to Trio and buy some beer and wine to enjoy with the seafood you bought at Outland or Sugar Shack

There's shit to do outside of the dune, the monument, the aquarium, lighthouses, and the beach. Maybe I've been here too long but unless you're wanting to go fishing in the sound or golf there isn't something to do unless you're looking to entertain elementary aged kids as well as keep them distracted during bad beach days.

I'm going to OBX in about a month and am intrigued by this. Don't have a 4WD, though; how long a walk would this be?

was drunk at beach house for the remainder of trip
