Pretty bleak so farForeign policy-wise, we're looking at the same interventionist strategy of the Obama years with the added excitement of a rapidly accelerating cold war with China

Picks are left wingers but certainly solid pics. Cabinet looks more than acceptable so far to overwheming swath of country. GoodPolicies too.

Its ok. Political labels have so many meanings to different people that they are meaningless in this country. One man's socialist appointing left wingers is another man's right winger appointing centrists.

Picks been acceptsble so fsr but if he pulls a clinton/obama and picks repub for secdef, i will be disappointed
11/25/2020 8:19:29 PM
Andrew Yang for secretary of commerce? I would rather let him run in 2024.
12/4/2020 11:01:25 AM
He still could.
12/4/2020 1:06:10 PM
He wouldn't win.
12/6/2020 2:20:45 AM
He'd have a better chance winning as a republican than a democrat and thats only because it'd be non zero.

Blue MAGA folks. How can you defend his pick for transportation secretary? Where is the experience?
12/15/2020 4:00:30 PM
He drives a car. He is smart.
12/15/2020 6:46:37 PM
I wonder if they rolled out some of the really terrible names like Rahm or garcetti that was just so when they named Pete we'd feel relieved.
12/15/2020 6:59:39 PM
Anyone in biden administration cabinet>>>anyone in trump administration cabinet
12/15/2020 7:21:20 PM
Pretty low barHorosho fucking sucks, but the election is over its now time to hold Biden to a higher standard. Pete as transpo is as pure a political appt as you get. Rewarding someone that dropped out at tye right time is the cynical view, but at minimum trying to give a good role to a future pres candidate
12/15/2020 7:24:04 PM
Or at maximum give someone people would rather be president a position than current president-elect. Def glad trump lost don’t get me wrong[Edited on December 15, 2020 at 7:39 PM. Reason : some people at least. Not the uber left wing liberals]

Y’all must have been too busy posting rat emojis on Twitter to remember that Mayor Pete had the most detailed infrastructure plan during the primaries, a plan that relied heavily on revamping or addressing a huge portion of the country’s transportation issues. A plan that specifically reached out to more rural communities, that incorporated Climate Change issues, and included a massive road safety initiative.A plan that doesn’t carry the same political baggage as the Green New Deal (this baggage is stupid and bullshit, but you can’t deny it exists) but is still way more comprehensive and 21st century than Biden’s “Amtrak is great, let’s spend $1 trillion on trains” plan. The cherry on top is that Mayor Pete has shown an ability to go on hostile news programs and not just hold his own, but actively push back on shitty political narratives. An actual infrastructure plan, despite always polling well in both parties and every administration since Reagan making big promises, is going to require a salesman to convince the American people to push it through Congress. Pete could be a bipartisan bridge to get it done.So while I know lots of people hate Mayor Pete for having the audacity to run for President against their chosen politico, he should really be given a chance in this role.
12/16/2020 12:53:58 PM
I'm kinda surprised at the weird hostility (I'm not hostile to horosho i guess but he fucking) and misplaced personal attacks, those are valid points and maybe he'll be great. However I still think it's valid to express concern that they couldn't find someone more qualified, mayor of a medium city to cabinet secretary is a huge promotion.
12/16/2020 12:58:29 PM
I never named you specifically, but the stuck hog squeals loudest, so there must be some truth there.
12/16/2020 1:12:23 PM
You said y'all and only 3 of us were discussing the subject. But still awfully hostile to some pretty mild criticisms. Are Pete Pals the new Bernie Bros?
12/16/2020 1:24:14 PM
I don't know much about PB's infrastructure proposals and so don't have strong feelings about him at DOT. However, speaking generally, a relevant CV is not one of my top priorities for a Cabinet Secretary. Two main reasons:One, a lack of experience probably equates to lack of personal business ties. This isn't relevant for every Cabinet post, but some of them - transportation and agriculture leap to mind - are tied to very specific parts of the private sector. I'd prefer a candidate with little experience or profit motive to one with tons of experience who can line his (or his family's, or his company's) pockets through self-interested policy. Two, the job is just not very technocratic. Running any Department is mostly about management and politics. Management, because it typically involves a lot of people scattered all over the country, if not the world, and a sizable budget to portion out. Politics, because you have to convince the President and Congress to support the agency in general and any initiatives you may have in particular. If you're a reasonably hardworking and intelligent individual with some skills in management and politics, then in most cases I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you can pick up the technical details as you go.Mayor Pete certainly has some political acumen and experience, if not in transportation, then in management. That said, even the smallest executive department (Education) has four times the personnel and something like 179 times the budget of South Bend, Indiana. Transportation's budget is only slightly larger than Education's, but it has many more people - something like 60 times the size of South Bend's government workforce. So yes, this is a larger undertaking, and I can understand some skepticism. On balance I'm willing to give him a chance. What surprises me is that he even took the job. It isn't the role he wanted. It's hardly a springboard to bigger and better things - of the 18 DOT Secretaries we've had so far, I count only 2 that went on to be elected to anything after. Neil Goldschmidt served one term as governor of Oregon, and Elizabeth Dole had one undistinguished term as Senator from NC. So as a political prize for someone who bowed out and endorsed Biden, it seems like kind of weak sauce. Maybe he's a purely self-serving parasite who would take any cabinet job he could later use to get on the boards of Boeing or GM or whatever. Or maybe Biden offered him a free hand and a blank check to do unprecedentedly major infrastructure work, something so massive it actually could advance his political career. Or maybe Dem leadership came to him and said, "Look, you have no future in state-level politics, and we can't give you something so high-profile that you threaten Harris in 2024, but we need to keep you busy and somewhat visible until it's your turn somewhere down the line."[Edited on December 16, 2020 at 4:45 PM. The excuses being made for Pete are fine but they were never afforded to Carson and Devos by most the people who are making them. Telling.

How so?
12/17/2020 1:39:23 AM
In one case, the person is smart.
12/17/2020 8:14:53 AM
I don't think anyone in this thread ever even mentioned Carson, pos or neg. Im not sure about Devos but she was attacked bc her politics fucking sucked for education.

new EPA head is good, as he has a background in environmental science/issuesdefinitely helps that he’s from NC
12/17/2020 7:00:24 PM
I don't really understand the question. He nominated a progressive/first native american and she said it was real progress. Wasn't a controversial statement from a left perspective. She obviously thinks they are all going to be able to convince Biden to do a 180 and fully address climate change and I applaud that because its her job and the alternative is helplessly staring down a future with catastrophic impacts of the +2C warming that Biden's rhetoric and plans would certainly bring to fruition.[Edited on December 17, 2020 at 9:41 PM.
