Great day for a Trump rally in Tulsa.

Dumb question, but is Juneteenth something people traditionally say 'Happy Juneteenth' for or is it more like Memorial Day?

I've always heard and said "Happy Juneteenth". It is, a celebration, you see

^^^ Right right, but I wasn't sure if it was 'celebration of our freedoms' or more solemn in 'lets remember those who didn't get a chance to be freed'Thanks for clearing it up though[Edited on June 19, 2020 at 8:47 AM. Reason : a]

After I finish with work today, I'm going to grill some ribs, make a BBQ sauce, make some collards, and Mac and cheese. I'll most likely have some bourbon, and will play card games.

Sadly, I didn't know anything about Juneteenth prior to this year. It's probably half due to me sucking at history, and half due to systemic racism/white privilege, but in learning about it, i was struck by the fact that Texas ignored the Emancipation Proclamation for 2.5 years. All these dickheads with confederate flags who say it's about heritage not hate, and that abolition of slavery wasnt the reason for secession, are just the fucking worst.Like, how do you even pretend it wasnt just to keep slavery going when they ignored the fact that they had been freed?I will be celebrating Juneteenth by sitting in this realization that, despite what i thought i was doing to be an ally, i am woefully ignorant, and will do more to educate myself and others to blast that ignorance.

^A quick look into the primary points of the Confederacy's constitution points to slavery being a main issue, as it is explicitly laid out and protected therein.

^1) Like I said, I SUCK at history2) I knew it was always about slavery, but the people waving the flag around are always pretending its not.

^^^ All American textbooks in school touch on the 4th of July. Fee talk about Juneteenth.

Yeah I don't think I knew what juneteenth was until college at least, and I didn't actually learn it in school.

I gotta be honest, I ashamedly don't think I've ever heard of it before "Trump Made It Famous". (or if I did at some point, I'd forgotten). My bad. Happy Juneteenth!! (and my spell check apparently hasn't heard of it either, as it's flagging the word)

Outside of Texas, and by Texas I mean Galveston, I've never heard anyone ever mention it before. It's like in Star Trek when that guy is like, you didn't even know about the jedi stuff until an hour ago and now you're all into it.

I spent 4 years in NY but never heard of it. (1996-2000)I spent 2 years in NC but never heard of it. (2000-2002)I spent 4 years in LA and came to know of it my first summer there. (2014-2018)Considering what it is a celebration of, it should be made into a national holiday.Happy Juneteenth!
