Post here with any quarantine-related discussion, whether it pertains to preparation efforts or ways to stay preoccupied during extended isolation.I think that I've prepped enough food and supplies to last for two weeks to a month, if necessary; however, I have concerns that I'm overlooking some obvious necessities.Over the past few weeks, I've picked up a couple dozen cans of beans, tomatoes and assorted vegetables; I have a few bags of frozen vegetables, as well. I went to REI and bought about $50 worth of dehydrated camping meals, and I went to Harris Teeter and made the most of a buy 2, get 3 free pasta and pasta sauce promotion. I feel like this should give me enough variety so that I don't get tired of eating the same type of food over and over again.I'm fortunate to live in a house with a yard where I can still spend time, yet still feel fairly isolated.I don't think that I'll start to feel too stir-crazy, since it won't be like being confined during a power outage. If I get bored, I'll probably rent a few digital movies or play some video games that I recently haven't had a chance to play.

I have 30 rolls of toilet paper, but I only have 8 paper towel rolls; I feel like I should probably fix that. I went to the grocery store last night, and the toilet paper shelves were completely empty (but being restocked); there were still a few paper towel rolls on the shelves (and being restocked, as well). I also think that I should pick up some extra dog food, just in case.[Edited on March 12, 2020 at 10:53 AM. Reason : ]

There's a film called Quarantine that's a kinda dogshit horror movie, but it's a remake of a good Spanish horror movie called [•REC] (or REC, if you like).

Who's got a run down on what the government's actual power are with regards to setting and enforcing quarantines?
3/12/2020 2:00:33 PM
They have armored vehicles and tanks and shit and have shown they aren't afraid to point them at citizens. I think they can probably do whatever the fuck they want.

Problem is, if you have minor symptoms and don't get it verified, how does anyone know you had it? If you wake up tomorrow with a fever and minor symptoms, then 2-3 days later you're fine but you don't go get checked or tell anyone, what stops you from heading to your local grocery store a day or two after that? I could see them forcing you into quarantine if they confirm you have it, but when hundreds of people have this in Raleigh, particularly people in their 20s and 30s, are they really going to self-quarantine for 14 days, particularly when they start feeling better and think they're "fine"?

I've been quarantined after coming in contact with a person Wednesday who was confirmed positive for coronavirus on Thursday...but didn't tell me until Saturday.

I'm in a bit of a tight spot because we just moved. In the old apartment, there wasn't any room to stockpile. Building up a healthy emergency supply was at the top of my list of things to do once we got a house, but we only closed two weeks ago (and I was out of the country for the first of those two weeks). Long story short, we're lighter on provisions than I would like to be.The new place is near a Costco though, so I got a membership. Went last Monday to get the card and do a little shopping, things were fine but we didn't have much time. Went again Thursday in the middle of the day and it was wall-to-wall fuck-all. Just an absolute madhouse. People were still being polite and cheerful then, though word is there were some scuffles today.Anyway, between that, my go-bags from the apartment, and some other purchases, we could probably do a month in reasonable comfort. (Well, I don't know how comfortable my wife will be in a house full of farts after we're on a bean-heavy diet for two weeks, but I'll be fine)As for staying occupied, we both still have telework during the day, and at night/weekends we still have house setting up shit to do. She's also finally coming around to the simple joys of making fun of me while I play video games. But perhaps I shouldn't even be posting. We aren't technically even on quarantine, just lockdown. At the end of the day, what's the difference? Still can't go anywhere.

^ seems kind of silly with all of the exclusions they put in there - for example, banks can stay open, construction, real estate agents, etc.

I'm going to start this year's garden tomorrow. I still have kale, rosemary, parsley, thyme and mint from last year's garden. Somehow, this will be the first year that I grow bell peppers and onions, but they seem like essentials that I'll be cooking with a lot. I'll probably also grow spinach, bibb lettuce and squash.
