^ Pretty sure that was a thing up until the 1800's when they stopped making the VP the second place winner because it was stupid

That isn't what they're calling for - they want people to run for the office of VP, specifically, not for the person with the second-most votes to fill the role. I still think it's dumb - or just an April Fools' joke - but it's not that particular dumb thing.
