^ same.I post on twitter.I have IG and Snap but rarely look at them. Facebook I haven't posted anything to my own timeline in forever. Every now and then I like/comment on other folk's stuff. Also every now and then I deactivate my account. Should probably do that again.[Edited on January 11, 2019 at 12:42 PM. Reason : what else is there??]

TWW isn't social. It's the opposite. Until someone makes us publish our names and whatnot, it isn't very social.About the only thing I use is FB. I don't have a Twitter or Instagram account, and to be honest, I find myself checking FB less and less these days.I think you'll find however that Google+ will be the overwhelming winner here.

I stopped checking Facebook maybe 6 months ago

Never had Facebook.I'll read specific tweets but don't follow anyone or have an account.I haven't looked at Reddit in a few months. It was alright for a bit, but started to seem repetitious. Never really liked the posting format.I still like TWW. It's a low stakes shoot-the-shit, and I like the straight forward format. Small enough to have a feel for the personalities.

Facebook is absolute ass. I rarely visit and would delete it except I do manage a business page on Facebook. Twitter is nice because you can more carefully curate your feed to fit what you want out of it. You don’t feel obligated to follow that asshole from high school. And for that reason it seems way less personal. Sure, plenty of folks get real personal and post baby pics and all that. But people generally don’t use it to keep up with old friends and have photo albums like you might on Facebook. So i use it, and I tend to think most people do too, as a source of news and information and entertainment. Like almost any online community, it can be a complete cesspool of filth as well, so it’s not all good. Instagram is cool because it’s less political and less toxic. Instagram is mostly just “hey look at my vacation/dog/baby/supper”. Like, it’s mostly people posting pictures of stuff they are doing and/or enjoy. So that’s cool. But holy shit they fuck with your feed and you aren’t seeing stuff in anything close to chronological order and that really blows. And even though I said how it’s cool that instagram is mostly people posting pics of things they’re enjoying or doing - the downside is that I don’t really care about a lot of it. I prefer twitter because I feel like I can better filter out the shit I don’t like.Edit: I don’t do Snapchat. I used to. I just never really got the point of it. Reddit is pretty neat due to the specificity of subreddits. You can find a subreddit for any hobby or interest you have which is cool. I hate the format of it though. Reddit - not technically a SNS but it's definitely what I use most frequently. I read the shit out of Reddit. I'll reply sometimes, but it's usually not worth it to get my inbox blown up and I don't care about karma. Most of my replies are from /r/raleigh or /r/triangle. I moderate a couple of small subs, but put in very little work. Hardly ever post. Facebook - use the most because of Messenger, event invitations, and just so people can reach me for whatever reason. I'm not picky about adding friends from high school or college but I purposely try not to browse News Feed and stuff like that because I think it creates a weird comparative dynamic. I post occasionally - mainly to tag friends in pictures when we're out or whatever. Snapchat - I use this second-most I guess. I have a couple of people I have streaks going with that are several hundred days long, so I log in daily to do that. I watch snaps I get and I send direct snaps to <10 people or so but I don't check out stories often. Twitter - really only use it to check up on NC State recruiting rumors, etc. I only Tweet at corporate customer service to get in touch with a person quickly, even though that's pretty much the most toxic way to use it. Instagram - I limit people/things that I follow so it's not Facebook #2. I use it mainly to see what craft beer stores have in stock. When I travel or have an interesting picture I want to edit, I'll put it on there.[Edited on January 11, 2019 at 4:35 PM. Reason : .]

1/11/2019 5:44:34 PM
^same. Social Media is grossly overrated (for me.)... but I have debated building a social media site. Top level is text only, highly compressed, fully anonymous unless you allow others to know who you are. It would prioritize life events so I could not sign in for 18 months then catch up on important talking points 10 minutes before walking into a class reunion. I want to be reasonably social, but without having to sign in daily and put up with a billion ads, privacy incursions, and slurping down 500GB of data in the background.

^ dunno, don't use 4chan. But from a brief look, no. Much more compressed. If you write 400 words about a kid being born, I want some AI to compress that nugget of information into like 5 words.something like the firefox release notes where I can click through if I want to know morehttps://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/63.0.3/releasenotes/

FB - trolling and friends, familyInstagram - read a lot, post a littlecan't stand Twitter, it's a megaphone for stupidity
1/12/2019 11:39:14 AM
Facebook / Instagram - If I post a picture, I'll usually post it to Instagram and link it to Facebook. Other than that, I will occasionally scroll through IG but spend very little time there honestly. I will post to FB and read it, just because friends and family are there. I will add friends on FB if I even have a loose connection ( I know you, we went to school together, we met while hanging out, etc...) just to keep my feed interesting. However, this has led to a lot of material that I have no real interest in. I also follow a lot of news pages there to keep up with local, national, and world affairs.I am a part of a few FB groups and chats which are usually more interesting than anything else.Twitter - I will admit that I never really invested in Twitter like most people did. I never post. I occasionally read it to find up to date information on a variety of new events. But in general I have always found twitter to be information overload.Snapchat - I don't really use it. I never really got the point.Reddit - I read it. I rarely post. Tons of information on a variety of topics. But yeah, I hate the browsing format and the nested thread comments.TWW - This will always be home. I read it everyday, though I don't post very much anymore. I'm keeping my eyes on you guys. I feel like I know the personalities here, and I feel like I am usually pretty good at stimulating conversation.

I prefer Instagram for my daily use. I keep Facebook to keep up with some family and acquaintances, but mostly for a couple groups I’m in. I really only use Snapchat with a particular group of friends. I just signed up for Twitter the other day, but I’m not really into it. I loosely follow a few accounts but don’t plan on ever posting. And I like to check in to TWW semi-regularly. Been doing it more frequently the past few weeks.[Edited on January 12, 2019 at 1:32 PM. Reason : ]

1/12/2019 2:37:19 PM
^ yeah twitter is good to follow a very niche topic. I follow a squid scientist that's active, for example, and she's always posting obscure squid stuff from her research, or retweeting stuff from her scientist friend. It's also the best way to keep up with astronomy going-ons since you can follow the astronomer's directly and you can succinctly get an understanding of something happening.

1/12/2019 9:38:39 PM
^yeah thats what i do, i follow 180 people and read all their tweets in chronological order. its almost a disorder in that i feel like i have to keep up and not miss any

I can't do Twitter. I've tried. Everything about it is the exact opposite of what I want. The character limit is murder for a yammering fool like me. The traditional workaround - tweeting an image that contains the lengthy text you wanted to share - is pointless additional work. It seems like every tweet is mostly @'s and #'s and other things that aren't human fucking language as I know it. And even if it didn't suck on all of those levels, I harbor a deep-seated hatred for the vehicle of the destruction of Western Civilization. The only reason I ever got on Instagram was to share Africa pictures. Now it's mostly a means of exchanging dog photos. So for all its faults, I guess I'm a facebook guy. It combines the features of all of the others in a format that works for me. It helps that I purge my friends/follow list brutally and often.I love TWW but suppose I'm already part of its long, slow death cycle; I come here less because others come here less.
1/13/2019 8:21:56 PM
^hashtags (the # stuff) really don’t seem as prevalent as it once was. Definitely still exists but, and maybe my feed is in the minority, it isn’t nearly as widespread anymore. They’ve kinda cleaned up the really messy parts of tagging (the @ stuff) other users...at least on the mobile app. You still tag them, but it’s more of a nested thread of replies than a long stream of @usernames followed by a few words. They expanded the character limit to 280...the common work around is just to make a thread where you reply to your original and wind up with a string of 80 tweets. It can be annoying. That’s just my opinion. And it’s totally cool if you still don’t like it - just pointing out a few changes/improvements that have been made

OK, yes, there are threads - which are subject to the same complaint, which is that they are a pain in the ass solution to a problem that bothers me in the first place.
