...from your current location? How tied are you to your spot, and what could convince you to go somewhere else in a different region of the US or even internationally?

i hope I move from my current town as soon as my daughter is off to college...and if I can get into a good MBA program and get into VC (or maybe investment banking), I hope I leave the whole area. I moved here and stayed here to get and keep half custody of her, and I hope I'm not here a day longer than I have to be.

Depends on how you define region. My wife and I can't bring ourselves to love DC as a place to live. Our jobs are here, but we'd happily move back to Baltimore if our jobs allowed a little more telework (which they might, in time), or if Elon Musk builds his high-speed tunnel thing, or pretty much anything happens to drastically shrink the total weekly commute between those cities.Looking more broadly, I'd love to move back to North Carolina. All it would really take for me would be the ability to transition my job down there (not inconceivable, we have an office in Raleigh) and a significant change in my wife's opinion of the area as a place to live and work at this stage in our lives. So pretty much a nonstarter. We've discussed international. It would really just take some combination of factors that make it professionally viable - either we both need to find good jobs (ideally one keeping me in the Federal system) or one of us needs to find a REALLY good job while the other does make-work stuff at an embassy. We both enjoyed living in Africa and would go back.

It wouldn't take much. I'm satisfied with my current situation in Raleigh, but I have no deep connection to the place. If I could get a similar or better gig along the NC coast or anywhere else fairly nice (US or otherwise) that's coastal and relatively warm year round I wouldn't think twice about bailing.

My current company paid $25K for my relocation to south FL. This place sucks. Cost of living and raising kids here are expensive. The good thing is the job is challenging and very good for me but I dont think Ill be living here long term. My relocation retention is done with but I want to gain more experiences in my field then Ill dip to somewhere more comfortable raising a family.

I'd like living at my current standard of living in a larger metro area but the cost of living differential wouldnt meet the pay differential for anywhere else but a smaller town

I love my neighborhood. On a warm day, my daughter is able to play with at least 5 other kids who are +/- a year or two from her in age. It's great to be able to watch them all play together. All of the parents/neighbors are pretty cool too. We'll occasionally get together and have street parties.I also really enjoy the state in which I live, and my location within NC. It's nice to be 2 hrs from the beach, and 3/4 hrs from the mountains, 4/5 hrs from DC, etc. I don't think I'd ever live abroad, and I don't know, something drastic would have to happen to get me to move far from my roots.#ncismywheelhouse

I work in a very small office. My boss is close to retirement and i'm not sure what the succession plan is, but i'm fairly certain it'll be an outside move. I enjoy my job most days and the compensation is very very good. That being said, i could see a sea change in the way things are done causing me to explore other opportunities. I've been tied down to this area for my entire life but my social circle has grown smaller, my parents are retiring, i don't have a big family. There's not much really keeping me here. I'm just not brave enough to do it.

Moved to Dallas 3 years ago to get back to a bigger city and the mix of culture/things to do, no state income tax, and reasonable cost of living for a big-ish city are hard to beat. If it was anytime in the near future, if I was to be lured away, it would probably be NYC, Seattle, SF, Chicago, Austin. But I really enjoy my current company a lot and just got a good raise so it would take a lot - mostly money with some career jump. But even then I love my work/life balance here. For example, I was being recruited by FB for their Menlo Park campus earlier this year. And even with FB salary, it was barely a break even if that for me compared to Dallas and there was no guarantee my other half would be able to make it work out there the same way she does here either. So if that didn't do it right now, I don't know what would anytime soon.
