Appreciate him? Don’t appreciate him? Discuss! But keep it civil.

I’ll start:

I appreciate him. A lot.

I'm still worried about our frontcourt depth but he has looked good this year

Yeah depth is a legit concern. Feel like Steere woulda played plenty this year had he stayed.

He has the potential to be the best player we've had in a long time.

How much eligibility does he have left? One year after this one?

Needs to stay out of foul trouble. Hopefully he will figure out how to do that before tournament time.

He played really well last night. I Didn't realize how long his wingspan was. It makes him an ideal shot blocker if he can stay out of foul trouble.

He seems to have the most upside of anyone on the team. Sort of Paul George-type player with his shooting, length, and agility. I could see him testing the NBA waters after this season if he keeps improving.

Anyway, much appreciated.

Definitely needs a bigger role in the offense, could help us get through shooting slumps from the guards.

Not sure how this thread was never bumped

But he is back to practice, still suspended for GT but looks like "indefinite" may be closer to coach k's definition

Hmm right after I posted this, I saw on Twitter that Giglio says there are more issues then just BootGate......

Man I was prepared to cuss him out, he and Bates were giving up so many O rebounds, then he flipped a switch with about 10 min left!

Man I started reading this thread from the top because the date seemed right and got all excited because it said he had 2 more years left when I thought he only had 1.

I don't how he compares to other ACC players, but he is by far statistically the best rebounder on the team

Well actually, AJ Taylor is the best rebounder on the team statistically

He has a total rebound percentage of 36.5%, which means he grabs over a third of all available rebounds while he is on the floor. Funderburk is a puny 14%

1) where do you find those stats?

2) who has the best (aside from Taylor) RB % on the team?

3) if you answer #1 I can figure out #2 on my own.

Thanks

Great game tonight. Somehow a quiet 21 points. Kinda overshadowed by Kells and DD but he balled out on both ends.

funderburk has 3 assists this year. that's 0.3 assists per 40 minutes. that's easily worst on the team of any of the guys getting regular minutes. of the regulars, next lowest is Bates at 1.0 assists per 40 mins. but, hey, i'm not here to criticize Fudnerburk...just provide some context. so with that said, i was curious where that ranked in storied annals of Wolfpack history. is 0.3 assists per 40 minutes historically low? join me on my quest to find out. i'll posit that tracy smith's assists were quite low. but otherwise no other big men are jumping out at me. i seem to recall richard howell being a decent passer, but maybe i'm wrong. a lot of herb's bigs were decent passers plus that offensive style would seem to lend itself to more assists for bigs (backdoor cuts and such). so here we go:

i've listed the lowest assist per 40 min (of players playing >10 mins/game) for each previous Wolfpack season:

2020-21: Funderburk 0.3 assists/40 mins
2019-20: Funderburk 0.4 assists/40 mins
2018-19: Funderburk 0.9
2017-18: Lennard Freeman 0.3 (a tie! but let's keep this going...)
2016-17: Ted Kapita 1.1
2015-16: Beejay Anya/Maverick Roward tied with 0.8
2014-15: Anya 0.5
2013-14: Anya 0.4
2012-13: Scott Wood/TJ Warren 1.2
2011-12: DeShawn Painter 0.7
2010-11: Painter 0.6
2009-10: Josh Davis/Tracy Smith 1.4
2008-09: Simon Harris 0.9
2007-08: Trevor Ferguson 1.3
2006-07: Dennis Horner 1.1
2005-06: Andrew Brackman 1.9
2004-05: Brackman 1.2
2003-04: Levi Watkins 1.4
2002-03: Josh Powell 1.5
2001-02: Watkins 1.1
2000-01: CORNELIUS WILLIAMS 0.0

Cornelius Williams played 21 games. Averaged exactly 10.0 minutes/game, just barely qualifying for this statistical experiment (which i just completely made up)...and had 0 assists for the entire season. Amazing. Just to be sure that was correct, I tried to double check Corn Dog's stats on another site...and i can't actually find another site that has his stats for 2000-2001. so i'll just assume that sports-reference is correct. In 209 minutes he recorded 0 assists. But wait. 209 minutes...21 games...that doesn't equal 10 minutes/game. That is only 9.95 minutes/game!

In hindsight a better stat might be assist % or assists per 100 possessions rather than per 40 mins. Because that would not be skewed by tempo. But I’m not gonna redo it.

That's an interesting stat for sure. I'd posit that it's largely due to the offense more than selfish tendencies alone. Our big men simply don't get the ball much as a part of our offense. That may be due to our guards rather than by design, but most of their "ball time" comes from rebounds and put backs.

That said, I do think DJ has sometimes pressed offensively when he has the ball this season in particular. You will see him driving into defenders when he gets the ball in the post or trying put backs with defenders in his face rather than kicking it out. I'd argue that it's understandable given the fact he is a senior and the aforementioned lack of offensive opportunities and not getting the minutes he deserves (IMO) either for much of the year.

Oh yeah I wasn’t trying to critique Funderburk’s game or call him selfish or anything. Just found it interesting more than anything.

Distributing or passing out of the post isn’t really his strength but it’s also not really his role in the offense either.

If DJ passes to Beverly, it's a guaranteed non assist, because he will miss every shot, amirite?
