Lose this game and we can forget being ranked again for a while.

Cuse is going to be up for this game, mainly because they're coming off 2 shitty close games and we're ranked going into their place.

Now to see if our guys have a hangover loss from the Clemson game or if our leaders can get our guys motivated and prepared. We should beat them if we play like we did against UVA or 1st half of the BC game.

Interestingly enough the line opened at Cuse -1 and is now at State -2.5. So people are clearly putting money on us and Vegas saw it as essentially a pick'em with slight favor to the home team.

I hope our guys still feel like they have something to play for. Winning the division, having an ACC or even CFP shot isn't the same as paying for 11 wins or a peach(?) bowl berth.

Clemson still has FSU, UL, BC, Duke and S. Carolina. I fully expect them to keep rolling, and the chance of them dropping two is slim, but you never know - particularly if a key player gets hurt.

This game feels like a classic NC State loss and Cuse will definitely play us tough. I think the pick em odds are pretty spot on, just depends on which team shows up.

We seemed to bounce back fairly well last year. Lost to ND, turned around and played clemson really well. Lost to clemson and beat BC. That had all the makings of a classic letdown but we managed to win. I think we should be alright.

Cuse will bring trouble to every opponent, like what they did in the Death Valley.

Clemson still beat them with a 3rd string QB. Regardless, this game will be tough. What's the status on injuries?

I don't agree.

Most of the damage in that game was self inflicted, I am not saying we definitely would win but I think we are a better team that Syracuse and changing the QB to a 3rd stringer changes our defensive approach.

Yea and our best starting field position all day was our 31 yard line. Maybe the backup torches us just as bad, but maybe we hold him down, maybe cause a TO, and have a drive or 2 start closer to the 50 then our own end zone.

Cuse had 14 more total yards than we did. They had drives that started at the Clemson 38,30, and 10 yard line and got 10 pts out of those 3 possessions.

Clemson also barely even let the backup throw and we were stopping the run fairly well.

I've got a bad feeling about this. I still don't understand what we've done to have such high expectations after not looking all that impressive against sub-par competition.

The ESPN matchup predictor, which only gave us a 10% chance to beat Clemson but had us as strong favorites for every game after, has us now at 49% for this one. I'm not really sure why our stock fell so far after doing exactly what was expected last week, but this is where I thought we should have been before.

The “high expectations” are based on us being better than the rest of the teams on the schedule. Not that we’re a top 10 elite team. We are just better than a lot of other team in a down year for the ACC.

I also reject the idea that we looked bad vs sub par competition. We dominated Ga State and Marshall (fumbled kickoff made that game look closer than it was, we were in control all along) and dominated UVa too. Had a bad game with turnovers vs BC and still kinda easily won that game. It was in doubt briefly at the end but we mostly cruised to victory.

I didn't say we looked bad, I said unimpressive. Beat teams we should have beaten but not by any special measure or degree, and like you said a couple were closer than they should have been.

We have no more opportunities to take on elite teams, so even if we do win out I can't imagine we're going to get invited to a top-tier bowl even with one loss if we don't have a signature win.

If we win out and go 11-1 they can put us in whatever crummy bowl and it won’t matter. It’ll still be the best season ever and I’ll gladly sign up for that now.

If we won out and went 11-1 with our only loss being on the road against a playoff team, we’d likely be ranked in the Top 10 and get an invite to a New Year’s Six bowl. Sign me up if that were to happen. That would be the greatest season in State history. Maybe it could help me forget the Jay Davis/Marcus Stone/Daniel Evans/Justin Burke/Harrison Beck years. I feel bad for those that went to State from Fall of 2004 and graduated in Spring if 2008. They got no Rivers and no Wilson. I at least got the final 2 years of Rivers when I went to State. Who was that tall Italian looking QB that we had that everyone hoped would be good, but never played? I think he had went to a Cardinal Gibbons High School, but one from Florida.

FYI Giglio has been outlining how, even at 11-1, we would likely be in Orlando. Orange isn't available last year some we'd have to be top 10 CFP. That's a long way to go with no ranked teams in our schedule

If the currently higher ranked team teams the rest of the way, then Bama, Clemson, ND, Michigan make the playoff. We'd have to jump over one of these teams to make the top 10:

Georgia (losses to Bama, LSU, wins over Florida, Kentucky, Auburn)
LSU (losses to Bama, Florida, wins over Miami, Auburn, Georgia, MissSt, TAMU)
Florida (losses to Kentucky Georgia, wins over MissSt, LSU)
Texas (loss to Maryland, wins over OK, TCU, USC, WV)
Oklahoma (loss to Texas, wins over TCU, WV)
UCF (undefeated)

And in between us and that group is still Ohio State, Kentucky, West Virginia, Washington State, TAMU, Penn State...

11-1 with our most signature wins being UVA and Syracuse would not in any way guarantee a NY6 invite at this point. A lot of other things will have to happen on the way.

That leaves three "open" spots, based purely on the CFP rankings "

From Giglio. Under your scenario we don't need to jump UCF, #2 SEC, #1 big 12, #2 big 10 or #1 pac 12 bc they would all be in regardless.
