That boring trailer made me lose what little interest I may have had for seeing this. I love movies, especially comic movies, X-men Apocalypse was the only movie I’ve ever seriously considered walking out of. I did not walk out, and I’ve regretted that decision since. This looks like more of the same, I do not plan on watching it.

Looks awful. Apocalypse was terrible but I guess it made enough money to warrant this. At least they won't be shoehorning Hugh Jackman in as Wolverine anymore. I guess Mystique is just good now and a full fledged member of the X-Men. Jennifer Lawrence made it VERY clear how bored with the role she was in Apocalypse so maybe she has fixed that now. And Sophie Turner -- man, she just seems so wooden and bland. It works fine for her in Game of Thrones since her character is kind of like that anyway but I couldn't feel more meh about an X-Men movie then after seeing that trailer.

It looks like complete cooked poo. After I saw Age of Apocalypse, I thought "There is no way the next X-Men movie could be worse than that". I'm fairly confident that I was wrong.

- Annoying that they insist on Beast being in human form unless he is fighting. Same for Mystique. The fact that Beast can even switch back to a human form at all is annoying.
- Storm throwing some lightning. Oh that's cool and all but she can do more than just shoot lightning, which seems to be all they have really done with her since the original trilogy. At least in those ones she created fog and messed with the temperature too.
- It looks like they are trying to make a big deal about Jean throwing a helicopter around like it's a toy. Then it shows her levitate a train at the end as a further show of her power. Those are two things Magneto could do in his sleep. He literally uprooted the Golden Gate Bridge in X3 and casually flew it and hundreds of mutants around like it was nothing.

Hopefully the Disney purchase goes through quickly and they can cancel the theatrical release of this disaster and just put it on Hulu or something before it can further tarnish the x-men brand.

It's pretty impressive how they keep one upping(downing?) themselves on making the shittiest X-Men movie possible. Every single one is worse than the one that came before it.

I disagree that every movie is worse than its predecessor. X-Men: First Class was much better than X-Men: The Last Stand, and I think X-Men: Days of Future Past was a good follow-up to First Class. They didn't really get bad again until the last one, X-Men: Apocalypse.

Alright so I got dragged to see this last night. Not nearly as bad as I was expecting. As they put it on the Chernobyl miniseries -- "Not great, not horrible". It was certainly better than Apocalypse, the first Wolverine movie, and The Last Stand, but obviously that isn't saying much.

The biggest problem I think it had was that outside of the fight scenes, it was just kinda boring. It tried to create dramatic tension and whatnot but didn't really do that good a job. The villain wasn't really that fleshed out and just didn't really come across as too powerful at all. At least in previous X-men movies, the villains have always been of comparable strength to the protagonists. Additionally, Sophie Turner's performance was all around lacking and Jennifer Lawrence was mentally checked out.

That being said, I will say that Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy did an excellent job like they typically do. The fight/action scenes were pretty good too. One complaint that I've had about these movies in general is that a lot of times the characters just forget how powerful they are. Beast/Nightcrawler finally actually integrate their powers into fighting in this one though. Storm still just floats around and shoots lightning though.

Also, Beast is supposed to be ~50 yrs old in this movie and Magneto/Prof X 10-15 yrs older than that. The whole cast looks waaaaay younger than they should be, especially considering that this movie takes place about 10 yrs or so before Ian McKellen's rendition of Magneto would have taken place.

100% agree. I feel like it's getting way more flack than it deserves.

That said, I'm ready for the Fox-era of X-men to be over. And I'm genuinely concerned how the MCU will handle villainous mainstays like Magneto and Mr. Sinster -- they can't one-and-done these characters like they have Red Skull, Ronan, Hela, Zemo, Killmonger, Ultron, etc.

It deserves plenty of flack. It is definitely not a good movie, just not as bad as it could have been. It is coming after an absolutely atrocious movie, so it is much better by comparison, but there is plenty to criticize.

I just read it described as “aggressively mediocre,” which I think is pretty fitting

Sure, I don't dispute that. But it's being called the worst X-men movie of the franchise; but it is not worse than Apocalypse, X3 or Origins.

Oh, I hadn’t seen it being called the worst, it’s definitely not. I’d still rather watch X3 though, which is terrible, but has more entertainment value IMO

Definitely not the worst and, although Apocalypse was awful, both Days of Future Past and First Class were pretty good (despite the complete lack of continuity).

I see Magneto being the likely villain in their first foray into the MCU and him likely being a returning background villain/antihero like Loki has been. Will be interesting to see how vibranium comes into play with Magneto's powers.

^^What? No they aren't. They are widely accepted by most audiences (critic and user) as some of the best in the series. They are currently second and third highest rated X-Men movies on Rotten Tomatoes (Behind Logan), at like 86-90%.
