I don't hate it

Looks better than the Heath ledger joker.

I’m not sure what to think about this movie, I almost certainly will watch it at some point, no matter what the reviews, but I can’t say I expect it to be that great. Hopefully I’m pleasantly surprised.
9/22/2018 10:48:36 PM
Did I read correctly that this does not take place within the current DC cinematic universe?
9/23/2018 12:04:02 AM
Correct, it's basically the first in a proposed series of 'one offs' that will have a much lower budget
9/23/2018 9:09:42 AM
^^ based on the shit show that is most of the DCEU, i'm actually excited about this

My god DC movies are a joke lately (pun intended). I know this isn't part of the DCEU but ever since the Dark Knight trilogy ended, [Wonder Woman aside] it just seems that DC is doing its best to imitate Marvel's success. Please be good.

Looks like a juggalo
9/25/2018 8:45:01 AM
^lol I read a comment somewhere on the internet that said he looked like a dad trying to connect with his juggalo son. There couldn't have been a better description.

Phoenix is a really, really good actor. Im not big on the DC universe, but ill catch this
4/4/2019 9:59:57 AM
yeah the trailer really hooked me. it actually reminded me a lot of the film Her, but WP just gives that vibe to a lot of his films. I also think he was an unexpected but very good choice for this sort of role. This may be a comic based movie that I can actually convince my wife to go see.

I somehow just realized that this is going to be directed by Todd Phillips. Now, I am not sure about what to think about it.
8/10/2019 2:53:37 PM
While the trailer provides an interesting take on the Joker, it sure doesn't make him out to be some criminal mastermind.
8/10/2019 4:52:44 PM

They have said they aren’t really using any plot points from any specific comic, but this whole talk show angle sure makes me feel like they could be using a Joker event from The Dark Knight Returns
8/29/2019 9:56:03 AM
What does everyone think about the controversy surrounding this movie?
9/27/2019 2:34:12 PM
probably should wait until seeing the movie before commenting on anything about/surrounding the movie
9/27/2019 3:02:37 PM
im pretty sure the controversy rjrumfel is speaking of is SEEING THE MOVIE IN A THEATRE. families of the Aurora shooting victims are hella worried cause they think someone will do it again.but you should def go see it. also, how bad do you think jared leto feels when all these other guys who play joker are lauded as amazing performers, and hes just a fucking joke, no pun intended
9/27/2019 3:08:10 PM
I liked him in Texas Buyers Club...and I plan to see this movie, possibly next week

Haven't been this pumped for a movie in a while.SPOILERS???I think I already majorly spoiled it for myself by reading this review:[Edited on September 28, 2019 at 9:31 PM. Reason : THIRTY YEARS AGO HIS MOTHER WORKED FOR BRUCE WAYNE'S DAD, BUT NOW SHE'S CRAZY. WONDER WHAT THAT MEAN]

10/7/2019 6:46:07 AM
All this hubbub about incel violence on opening weekend. I didn't recall any Joker related shootings on CNN.
10/7/2019 7:26:14 AM
https://theconcourse.deadspin.com/youre-not-going-to-remember-any-of-this-shit-joker-re-1838770612I agree with this review 100%Phoenix is great in it, but everything else about it is just kind of ok
10/7/2019 12:07:58 PM
I haven't seen King of Comedy or, to my shame, Taxi Driver, which possibly colors my feelings on the movie. People who are familiar with those films call Joker derivative of them and dislike them accordingly.Since I haven't seen those and am coming to this relatively fresh, I quite liked this movie. Phoenix does a phenomenal job and it is well-shot. Predictable? Yes. Do the other characters kind of fade into the background? Also yes, though I think that makes sense for a movie about a mentally ill loner who essentially lives trapped inside his own head.Several reviewers have said that there's no point or message to Joker, but I think it does a good job of taking the "forgotten angry white male" populist concept and painting it as a perverse tumor on society (One could go farther and say that a semi-literate, strangely-colored lunatic with dangerous delusions inspiring a movement of disaffected, ignorant people sounds, well, familiar). The problem is that the angry white male populists who see it won't see that, they'll see Joker as a hero. I'm sure some nut will eventually shoot a bunch of people dressed as Joaquin Phoenix in this movie for that reason.

THIS TOWN NEEDS AN ENEMA
10/11/2019 10:49:29 AM
I watched it, and I enjoyed it. It's not great, but it's pretty good. Joaquin was amazing. I'll watch it again.I can see the comparisons to Taxi Driver and the similarities to King of Comedy... I need to go back and watch that, it's been 15+ years.
10/18/2019 3:36:25 PM
the more time that’s passed since I watched it, the less I like it just too dark for the sake of being darkJoaquin Phoenix deserves to be nominated for Best Actor, tho
10/18/2019 3:54:37 PM
I kept thinking y'all were referring to Kings of Comedy
10/18/2019 5:28:50 PM
first half of the movie was great. Did a good job of making you feel something for the joker and his background, although he is still crazy. His laugh was eerie. I cringed when he went on stage for his comedy routine.his appearance on the talk show was weird. I was behind the motivation of him going to kill himself. But was surprised when all the sudden he got the confidence/anger to go on his rant. Did he get inspired by seeing all the people dressed up like him?I was confused when the woman was into him, and liked the twist that he was living in his own head.Would have liked him to just go straight crazy at the end when he was in the cop car and somehow caused the cops to crash instead of being saved accidentally by the ambulance. Started off really strong, not quite as strong at the ending, but a very enjoyable (and very dark) movie.

I liked it and agree that Phoenix should get a Best Actor nomination - he was phenomenal. I liked how dark and unapologetically violent it was. Although it makes you super uncomfortable, I thought that was necessary. I don't see how people don't see a message in this movie, the entire theme is basically we fail to understand and treat mental illness.
