Take down the Participation banner! The old spice banner is safe, right?

who gives a fuck? I'd be fine living in a world where Dennis Smith Jr. never played for NC State.

I'd be fine living in a world where the one and done rule didn't exist and college athletes were able to be paid, but we don't live there.

yep, its one thing if the schools want to be greedy bastards and not share the billions in TV money with players but its really evil to try to prevent others from paying them too [Edited on February 24, 2018 at 1:45 PM. Reason : d]

i don't understand what these revenue sports today have to do with college education at all, we should just completely separate it from education and make it the development league for the nba/nfl[Edited on February 24, 2018 at 3:09 PM. Reason : .]

Pretty much
2/24/2018 3:36:19 PM
What about the vast majority of players who won't be playing in the pros?

Pretty fly for a black guy.
2/24/2018 5:27:20 PM
^^ not everyone in development leagues makes It to the top level, why would this be different? Just treat it like a club sport that has nothing to do with the school
2/24/2018 7:44:00 PM
So do away with athletic scholarships? Prevent a financially challenged high school athlete from getting the chance to get a college education?

I just think that would be another counter argument Also, nobody wants to watch a bunch of 18-22 year-olds play basketball for Club Raleigh or some shit. College sports are on par or preferred to pro sports by many fans. Whereas AAA baseball, the NBA Developmental League, ECHL hockey, the XFL, etc are not.
2/24/2018 10:12:49 PM
first easy step is getting rid of rules that apply only to student athletes and not all students in regards to work/income/loans/contracts
2/25/2018 5:41:33 AM
I don’t think it should be separate from the schools. But you could allow the players to make money off their likeness. Whether it’s merchandise, video games, commercials, etc. Similar to the Olympic model, I guess. Let them do endorsements and stuff without messing up their “amateur” status
2/25/2018 8:48:58 AM
if they aren't amateur players why have it related to schools? what does education have to do with professional sports? make it related to the town/city
2/25/2018 11:23:56 AM
Or just have the value of the scholarship given as a cash incentive and eliminate the requirement to attend class. Let the players opt in or out of the classroom.[Edited on February 25, 2018 at 12:06 PM. Reason : ]

^^if you’re starting all over today, you’re right. You should probably have the Raleigh Lobos club team with no association with the university. But this level of athletics is so engrained in collegiate culture that it’s gonna be hard to totally break up this level of athletics from the schools. Plus - do the universities wanna miss out on the extra exposure and money that athletics bring in?
