I have some Merrell's with a vibram sole. They're ok with me. I never liked the "wearing a foot" look though.

breaking news: blind people wear ugly shoes

Between the two of us I think we do pretty well style wise, but can't seem to break his undeniable love for these shoes. He says I hate them so much because I can't really wear them on my non-meat foot.

I have a pair. I am kinda outdoorsy in the spring and summer, so if I'm going on a hike to a waterfall or something where my feet will get wet, I will wear them for that. Wading across a river with bare feet is no good with a backpack on. I also wear them when doing yardwork simply because I can throw them in the washer afterward and they will be good to go again. I realize you can do this with regular shoes though, but these things aren't loud as fuck and they dry out very quickly.Sidenote, I got mine I think in 2009 or 2010 and they are still in excellent condition. VERY comfortable.

^ ditto. I did 13 miles one day in Sydney Australia in mine as well.
1/27/2018 11:46:33 PM
i wear vibrams with my mittens
1/28/2018 9:12:09 AM
Did the Australians give you a lot of shit for wearing them? We went there last year for a few weeks and so many people gave Joe hell for wearing these things. Although Sydney wasn't as bad as Melbourne or Perth.

I read a thing that said they can cause foot problems because they keep your toes spread out unnaturally
1/28/2018 11:50:46 PM
Are these still a thing? Thread made in 2018, but I feel like these peaked closer to like 2011?
1/18/2025 1:39:58 AM
I got some like a year ago it's good when you want lateral stability
1/18/2025 9:35:23 AM
I bought a pair in 2004.They finally broke this year when the sole separated from the fabric upper.
1/23/2025 2:53:43 PM
I have a pair that I use solely as vacation shows when I'm in and out of the pool, or on the beach. They serve their purpose, but I always feel like a dweeb. My other pair I use in the place of my Timbs when I'm shooting my pornographic films. They provide good traction.
1/23/2025 3:19:22 PM
^ That is what I used my pair for.The sole separated in a hot springs in Colorado.
1/23/2025 4:16:03 PM

We hired a Duke Master's Grad Data Scientist guy that wore them. We called him toe shoes. He would come in at 10:30, go to coffee with us, start work at 11, get help debugging some simple python code he made into a complicated 100 lines of tangled mess. At 12 he would go to lunch and the gym. Start work again at about 1:30 and leave by 3. He, maybe even his toe shoes, were an Omen that the world of 2010s was fake and gay and would not last.He was quite smart. Eventually he quit and has been working at Facebook for the last 6 years. I hope he dropped the toe shoes and got a girlfriend with all his millions.
