<clickbait>http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/wake-county/raleigh-report-blog/article157220279.html</clickbait>In short: - Raleigh wants to tear down City Hall, build new government campus- City Council members say they don’t want to renovate the City Hall, vacant police station and parking deck on the downtown block bounded by Morgan, McDowell, Hargett and Dawson streets. Instead, they want to demolish them and start over on the site.- City staff estimated last year that the project could cost more than $90 million.Fuck that spensive shit, ClintCurrent status: uncredible

6/21/2017 3:36:01 PM
it's going to have to be replaced at some point better to do it now while the city has assets to sell in order to offset more than half of the $90 million it'll costthat cost will only go up the longer they wait [Edited on June 21, 2017 at 3:43 PM. Reason : .]
6/21/2017 3:39:38 PM
or....they more efficiently use the space they have. there's always that.[Edited on June 21, 2017 at 3:47 PM. Reason : still sell the assets tho and put that shit to better use]

What's wrong with the current complex?
6/22/2017 4:13:54 PM
^^article says the building only has another 15 years in it. but it was built in 1983, so that's kinda confusing to me.

bldgs got expiration dates now??? my house was built in the 70s. i'm not planning on demolishing that bitch just cuz it's gonna be more expensive to do it later.[Edited on June 22, 2017 at 5:11 PM. Reason : damn...we're wayyyyyyyyy overdue on the capitol bldg]

buildings have a design lifespan, and then a lifespan you use when you are forecasting and planning facilities and capital projects. ^^ 30 years is when you start getting into really major overhauls, 15 more years sounds realistic for needing a major renovationi haven't looked at these projects or whats planned so i have no idea if its true in this case, but its entirely possible that a complete demo and new better planned structure is more cost effective in the long run. also aesthetics do have value when you are trying to revitalize a city and encourage other development.

downtown Raleigh in 2017 is also nothing like downtown Raleigh was in 1983

I support this as long as they allocate some money for homeless services/shelters, so there's not homeless people walking around everywhere shitting and pissing in any nook or cranny they find.

an absolute pursuit of safety or rather in this case, the illusion of so, is fruitlesswhat we can't quantify are the mental effects of this kind of a mentality on people

damn, not even a livestream with no attendees? could've at least done this covid-style.

My guess is that they've just been looking for an excuse to get rid of the Christmas Parade in general and replace it with another "closed streets arts/drinking festival" with a winter/holiday theme. There's probably way more money in the latter. They could easily still host the marching bands on stage or in parts of the street without walking around if they were so inclined.Who knows. I'm not a Christian, so I really dgaf about this parade if it's supposed to mean anything other than "community."

Modern Christmas parades are hardly about Christianity.
