To their kid? ^ although the chance of that kid being a productive member of society with that parenting is dubious at best

1 gallon of water = 8 pounds.

Terrace looks about 4ft x 10ft x 4ft.

The volume would be about 160 cubic feet.

It takes about 7.48 gallons to fill a cubic foot. 160 x 7.48 = 1197 gallons (rounded up).

Looks to be about half filled, so lets say about 598 gallons of water.

598 gallons x 8 pounds per gallon is 4787 pounds...well over 2 tons.

Balconies are generally required to support 100 lbs per square foot, that balcony is about 40 sq ft

100 lbs x 40 sq ft = 4000 lbs

Id say that "make your own pool" is exceeding the static load capacity of the balcony...prob not safe

Would any engineers care to double check my numbers?

lol you only need basic arithmetic and knowledge of units to check/do that (and being able to eyeball linear dimensions), not any engineering anything.

[Edited on June 20, 2017 at 11:14 PM. Reason : and if you do it in metric, you don't need all those conversions either!]

haha cool

my estimate:

3m x 1m x 60cm = 1.8 cu m = 1,800 kg = 3,960 lbs

but i know nothing about how much balconies are engineered to hold.

[Edited on June 20, 2017 at 11:18 PM. Reason : see how easy metric is compared to customary/imperial???!!! ]

I'm guessing the kid didn't actually die or else we would've heard about it.

If a kid dies in Asia, does it make a sound?
