I can't take Michael Jordan seriously, even if Creed. It does look good though. The Black Panther outfit looks really good; probably one of the cooler getups in the MCU.[Edited on June 10, 2017 at 10:53 AM. Reason : 't]

I'm really interested to see the box office comparison for this movie given its so rare to see a block buster heavy African American centric movie. I wonder if that will hurt or help overallbox office numbers

you're right they absolutely can, but that's a long way from declaring it right now from a teaser trailer]
6/11/2017 4:55:50 PM
^^really curious who you would consider even B-list, much less A-list, if you are trying to call fucking Black Panther C-list.

Don't mind him. I used to think there was some spark of intelligence there, but I was mistaken. He is a dog whose whimper sounds like "hello," and people ascribe the power of speech to him. Don't be fooled.[Edited on June 12, 2017 at 6:20 AM. Reason : ...]

I still can't get over how great MCU's pacing is. Especially if you compare it to DC's universe. Nearly every character has been introduced with their own (usually great) movie, or very organically introduced in a different movie (Spiderman/Black Panther - Civil War), and leaves audiences wanting to see more.Every other connected universe feels like they're trying to cram too much material down too quickly. And Marvel's patience is paying off. It's been nearly a decade since Iron Man and audiences still aren't tired yet. Even longer if you include the Hulk.

So I watched African American YouTube reactions to this almost entirely African American cast movie. There is definitely a level of excitement embedded in this that I, as a white person, don't experience when watching the trailer. I think its fantastic to see.Has there ever been a movie on this scale that's had a nearly all black cast?An action popcorn movie for that matter?[Edited on June 12, 2017 at 3:42 PM. Reason : kj]

Can't wait. I'm looking more to this than Spider Man. I'm assuming one calls black panther is a c list hero is because you are very unfamiliar with the story, he a big deal in the comic world and am glad that marvel is doing a movie. Civil war was a good introduction to the main audience. Im curious how they wil take the story as black panther is deep in African pan mythology and rite of passage
6/12/2017 8:06:47 PM
i hope they fully embrace it, otherwise he's just another iron man more or less

6/13/2017 3:09:59 PM
None of those heroes you mentioned are B list except maybe quicksilver. They are all extremely A list in the comics.[Edited on June 13, 2017 at 4:00 PM. Reason : *]

To be fair, near everybody is considered an A-lister in the comics. I'm pretty sure Marvel quoted themselves as being stuck with B-level heroes when they sold the movie rights to Spider-Man, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four back in the day, as those were the most popular franchises. Marvel being Marvel, took these "B-level" heroes, made them popular via the movies, then used the comics to raise them into the A-listers that we know today. Black Panther has only been elevated to something more relevant in the last ten years.
6/13/2017 8:28:39 PM
i'm hoping they sneak in namor at the end of this movie
6/13/2017 8:55:12 PM
Don't think they can use Namor based on this chart I've seen, but it's a few years old and doesn't take into account the Spidey deal. Also I think Hulk should be half in Universal because they have distribution rights to a solo Hulk movie, which is probably why they aren't making one and have stuck Planet Hulk in Thor 3.

Black Panther having a successful solo series does not equate to being elevated to something relevant. I can think of certain X-books in the 90's that went on for longer; doesn't mean that they have risen through the pantheon of heroes as something relevant. Gen X, Excalibur, New Mutants are all on the lower end of the totem pole as far as I'm concerned. I think his 2005 series was a better introduction of the character. If you want to introduce semantics that 2005 didn't exist in the last ten years, then by all means, go ahead.
6/14/2017 7:50:39 AM
He first appeared in Fantastic Four in the mid-'60s, teamed up with Cap for a hot minute, then jumped over to the Avengers as a full member within two years of his first appearance. And that whole time, he was a kickass superhero who was also a goddamn king in a Marvel Universe that was not as bloated with characters as it is now. He was relevant from the jump. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about. You're a fucking idiot.
6/14/2017 8:18:09 AM
I'm surprised Fox hasn't tried to do some sort of X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover since it has the movie rights to both. But then again there is yet to be a good F4 movie and the X-men movies are hit and miss so ... nevermind.
6/14/2017 8:40:13 AM
One of Claremont's ideas for the X-Men was that mutations caused by the X-Gene resulted in a very short lifespan, which is why there weren't any elderly mutants. It'd be interesting to extend that idea into a Fantastic Four crossover. Beast reaches out to Reed Richards with this discovery, and they work together to try to save mutantkind. Reed discovers that the strange energies of the Negative Zone nullify the lethal effect. The X-Men and mutantkind at large are divided on the notion of leaving Earth behind to "colonize" the Negative Zone in order to save their lives and the future of mutantkind.Meanwhile, a new group of extremists takes up the mantle of the Brotherhood. They believe the Negative Zone is the mutant Promised Land. They attack facilities meant to secure access to the Negative Zone, maybe some old Prison 42 leftovers. Their meddling in the Negative Zone rouses the fury of Annihilus, who nearly wipes out the Brotherhood until they make a dark offer. In exchange for asylum in the Negative Zone for all mutantkind, the Brotherhood will help Annihilus consume Earth once they've left it behind.

Eh, at this point in the MCU it's not even about who's the most popular character. It's about what characters offer them the best chance to build a story for and can be branched out from into further movies and characters. Black Panther followed by Namor by far give them the most to work with, and one of those doesn't have dubious movie rights.I'd have personally done a black panther movie before a dr strange movie, but maybe the strange movie will allow them to get away with a panther god now. Who knows.
6/14/2017 6:46:08 PM
They needed Dr Strange to really start to introduce the more mystical side of Marvel. Kind of like Guardians are a big help in expanding the galactic side.
6/15/2017 1:44:40 PM
Cast photoI'm pumped for this movie. Also, fun fact: Marvel's Black Panther predates the foundation of the Black Panther party.

Looks like they might be taking a page from the Michael Bay playbook to get some of that Asian market.Pretty awesome though. Seems a lot like Ant-Man to me, where it is almost nearly self-contained from the rest of the MCU. And I'm ok with that. Unless there's something they aren't showing us in the trailer, I only see Martin Freeman and that weapons dealer from Ultron.
