All the old threads are old threads.Started watching it really for the first time (catching up on a lot of older shows). HBO really knows how to do a great show.Although Tony's mother is one of the most insufferable characters in a tv show I think I've ever seen. Although some folks in Tony's gang are just a little too stereotypical. And what a great window to the 90's/00's.[Edited on May 10, 2017 at 2:07 PM. Reason : dafs]

This is my all-time favorite show. Yes, even above The Wire.

^ Where does Arli$$ rank on your HBO show list?
5/10/2017 2:48:49 PM
lol. never heard of it. any good?
5/10/2017 2:49:54 PM
No. But they referenced it on 30 Rock once. Robert Wuhl at his finest though.
5/10/2017 3:22:10 PM
Amazing how bigoted this show was allowed to be, at least for the first two seasons.
5/11/2017 12:20:27 AM
they're fictional characters fictional characters can be bigots
5/11/2017 12:22:56 AM
Doubt it would fly today though. The characters in 13 Reasons Why are all fictional, that doesn't keep the show from getting controversy stirred up.[Edited on May 11, 2017 at 12:30 AM. Reason : da]
5/11/2017 12:29:09 AM
of course it would fly todaythe characters are the bigots. the show isn't promoting bigotry. it may shock you to find out that there are a lot of racist people out in the world.
5/11/2017 12:43:39 AM
That was a great show. I got a lot of fond memories of chilling with my room mates back at NCSU watching that
5/11/2017 1:57:19 AM
Interesting timing of this thread, as I'm currently rewatching the series. Almost done with season 4.What I've really noticed, maybe more than when I watched it a decade+ ago, is how shitty of a person Tony's sister Janice is. And Tony's kids Meadow & AJ are little shits as well, lol.

So after watching several seasons of this show, I have to wonder, how do mafia types communicate these days now that we don't have pay phones?

I think the Season 2 finale "funhouse" is my favorite episode. There are other great ones (Whitecaps, Pine barrens, etc)but this one gets me in the Jimmies.
5/18/2017 3:43:21 PM
Watching the episode now where everybody gets capped. The tension in the train store was awful.

I also find it thoroughly awesome that Silvio is Steven Van Zandt from the E Street Band, and his wife IRL played his wife in the show.
5/31/2017 12:09:15 AM
Paulie Walnuts was a real life gangster and had a stipulation that he wouldn't be portrayed as a rat at any point during the show.

How did you feel about that ending? It sounds like GoT may have something similar coming.
4/12/2019 8:26:16 AM
it was the only thing I knew about going in, so I was prepared for itit was fitting and I think he was about to get hit
4/12/2019 11:33:33 AM
I was a huge fan of the first few seasons. Went off the rails for me a little bit towards the end. Probably my third favorite TV drama of all time after West Wing and The Wire.

Just finished another re-watch. I've been listening to Kevin Morby's "Baltimore County Line" a lot lately and the line "I'm a soldier, Adriana" gets me every time.

Kinda sad David Chase is cashing in on the nostalgia craze. That being said, Gandolfini's son is a near dead-wringer for a young Tony. I'll watch.
7/5/2021 10:46:55 PM
David Chase is a genius! I've been re-watching this series on repeat for the past 8 months.Season 1 Episode 6 - Pax Saprano - Tony's 2nd Dream SequenceTony is in his home bathroom when he hears the shower next to the toilet. He glances over to see the figure of a naked woman through the frosted glass doors. The shower stops, the shower door opens, and he sees Dr. Melfi. Is this Lorraine Bracco IRL or a stand in?
9/17/2021 10:41:36 AM
Can confirm its her
9/17/2021 11:19:38 AM
Lorraine Bracco thiccc!Liking the theme music in Season 3 E1: Mr. Ruggerio's Neighborhood. Brilliantly executed mashup of Henry Mancini's "Peter Gunn" and The Police's "Every Breath You Take."[Edited on September 19, 2021 at 9:21 PM. Reason : ***]

So I watched The Many Saints of Newark, and while I enjoyed seeing the younger versions of some of the characters, overall I was pretty disappointed. This was billed as an origin story for Tony Soprano, and all it really did was just show him hanging out with his uncle for a bit. I was expecting a Tony Soprano breaking bad, and the movie was NOT that.

I, too, just finished watching this all the way through for the first time.

10/29/2023 11:32:46 PM
I just rewatched seasons 1-5 for the first time since they premiered and season 6 for the first time. This is a phenomenal show, but I totally get why people hated the finale. I didn't hate it, but it also didn't quite work for me. There's something heightened about it.
10/30/2023 7:06:39 AM
I find the therapist to be very attractive ngl
10/30/2023 6:11:23 PM
Dr Melfi is smooth, like a mandolin
10/30/2023 6:40:18 PM
Younger generations just don’t know the importance of this show when they watch it for the first time. This show blew minds. I know that’s hard to believe given the vast amount of prestige TV that came afterwards, but this was the first show to offer up the kind of writing, acting and production values typically seen in movies. I didn’t watch it when it came out, but we had HBO in the dorms so I should have.

I think they did Adriana's demise dirty
11/6/2023 7:39:13 PM
How so? She was married into the mafia, had been around them for years. She knew the risks and what would happen if she was found out. I guarantee you Tony would've done the same to his wife.
11/7/2023 7:44:07 AM
I think the fact the FBI was waiting for her to come back while she was being murdered, not using it as a sting

I am reminded of Louis the whatever's finance minister...he built this chateau — Nicole and I saw it when we went to Paris — it even outshone Versailles, where the king lived. In the end, Louis clapped him in irons
