Panthers have the #8 pick - hopefully we make it count
2/6/2017 6:49:15 AM
Matt Dayes all Dayyyyy baby.
2/6/2017 7:04:47 AM
Seems like most mock drafts are moving on from the stock Fournette pick for the Panthers at #8. I've seen everything from Solomon Thomas(DE) to Ryan Ramcyzk(OT) to Marshon Lattimore(CB) to Jamal Adams(S). I think as long as it's not DT or LB I'll be content. Watch us do something stupid and take Jabril Peppers in the 1st round.

Problem is the top OL options in this class are suspect at best. Think I read Oher still hasn't passed concussion protocol, so who knows if he'll be forced to retire or what. If he did retire we could use that cash to invest in an OT, some decent veteran options in FA this year. No way we keep Remmers around, so we're going to have to pick up some FA options and perhaps draft a 2nd or 3rd round option to groom.Don't care who we have at QB, RB, or WR, if our OL isn't better than last year we're going to struggle. Sucks we have a top 10 pick in a draft with no great OT option in the first 15 picks.
2/6/2017 11:25:22 AM
I want FOURNETTE!
2/7/2017 1:36:38 AM
Best player available so I guess Trubisky? Oh wait this isnt the Hornets thread..
2/7/2017 8:21:56 AM
Fournette would be great, but first the OL has to be addressed as been stated. Cam has to have time and, our run game has to be effective. Draft and FA need to catered around the trenches... OL and DE. III
2/7/2017 10:49:19 AM
RB can address both protection and the run game.We need to take the best player at #8. Not just a hope at OL
2/7/2017 2:28:54 PM
Fournette should be option 1. He's a superstar in the making, even though i think he'd be better in a traditional offenses than the crappy zone read we run. He'd instantly change Panthers' identity on offense. If Cook didn't have those rape charges or whatever, I'd be fine taking him at 8. He might actually fit our scheme better from a skill standpoint.
2/7/2017 2:34:25 PM
Put the Kalils together
2/7/2017 7:47:54 PM
I'd much rather have Adams at 8 than anyone else. Draft Dayes in the 3rd and kick Stewart to the curb.
2/7/2017 9:51:27 PM
2/7/2017 10:18:47 PM
LOLOLOL
2/7/2017 10:21:47 PM
Stewart is good for 1 more year in RB years.
2/7/2017 10:53:25 PM
sometimes I think some of the people who post in the yearly Panthers thread don't watch a majority of our games each season[Edited on February 7, 2017 at 11:03 PM. Reason : a few have already made an appearance ITT]

Adams is the ideal first pick. I keep seeing Mixon mocked to us in the 4th or 5th round...there is just no way we take another domestic violence player despite his upside and skillset. I'd love to see Dayes on the Panthers but you'd have to keep JStew around and use Dayes in more of the DeA role. I actually wouldn't mind the RB from Texas in the 2nd or 3rd round depending on how the draft goes, think he has solid upside despite a high usage rate this past season. Wouldn't surprise me if a couple of OT's slide up the board come combine time though, they tend to most years. Still think biggest needs are OT, DE, S, RB, CB, in that order.
2/8/2017 9:02:33 AM
Tolbert cut
2/21/2017 3:15:19 PM
Looks like we might get the other kalil
3/9/2017 8:52:21 AM
Ted Ginn and AJ Klein also leaving and expected to go to the Saints. First Harper, now Ginn and Klein. They let Michael Tolbert go, but they keep Fozzy Whitaker (who was barely used and isn't as good as Tolbert). All a damn business......Tolbert BLED black and Panther blue.
3/9/2017 12:23:24 PM
glad you aren't the GM
3/9/2017 12:37:49 PM
Glad Klein is finally gone. Tolbert was a must cut to save money.Stewart and Gano would save us a tooshload of cash if we dumped them but I'm OK with trying to roll with them one more year. Need secondary help bad. No more bullshit this year. That DT signing was ridiculous. How much dead money is he c outing us this year?Good contract again for CJ
3/9/2017 2:24:34 PM
On one side I'm glad we got a LT, on the other side, that contract was garbage. Kalil will never be worth 5 years, 55.5 million with 25 guaranteed. We could have landed Okung or Whitworth for basically the same money. Bummed we didn't land Church, though not sure I wanted to make him a top 5 paid SS in the league either. My hopes for Adams has gone up a bit with all the SS signings yesterday, but I still think it's a very long-shot that he slides to us. Don't have to worry about taking Fournette anymore though, no way he makes it past the Jags at #4 apparently.
3/10/2017 9:02:16 AM
Whitworth is 8 years older than Kalil fwiw
3/10/2017 11:01:50 AM
3/10/2017 11:08:53 AM
3/10/2017 11:35:44 AM
Dayes would be a good pick in the 5th or 6th round.
3/10/2017 11:41:08 AM
Looks like Peppers is coming back home.Nothing official, but it'll be a great signing if true. He'll be relatively cheap, but he's still got one more good season left in him.Just wish I hadn't donated my old Pep jersey to goodwill
3/10/2017 11:51:27 AM
Feel like DG is signing someone for all of our "needs" just so we can invest in BPA. Need an OT? Over-pay Kalil. Need a DE? Bring back Peppers who hasn't played DE in 3-4 years. Need a Nickel CB? We're about to over-pay Munnerlyn. Wouldn't shock me if we ended up signing a veteran S and WR/KR just so we can start the draft with all of our "holes" filled.
3/10/2017 2:06:15 PM
signed S Mike Adams.also seems likely that they will sign WR russell shepard from tampa bay.
3/10/2017 3:29:28 PM
Kony Ealy and 3rd round pick to Pats for a 2nd rounder
3/10/2017 3:53:22 PM
i guess they just gave up on him. only moving up 8 spots in the draft with those traded picks.
3/10/2017 4:17:41 PM
I haven't really looked or heard, but we did have another conditional 3rd right? It wasnt that one?
3/10/2017 6:56:12 PM
No, it wasn't the compensatory pick.
3/10/2017 7:57:09 PM
Captain is back
3/10/2017 8:21:30 PM
I thought it was just ealy for a 2nd. We gave up a 3rd too... wtf?!
3/11/2017 12:25:09 PM
Also signed Charles Johnson yesterday. (WR, not DE)[Edited on March 11, 2017 at 12:38 PM. Reason : Glad the Philly Brown experiment is over.]
3/11/2017 12:36:43 PM
We gave up Ealy to move up 8 spots in the draft(swapped NE's late 2nd with our early 3rd). Honestly I don't mind it. Ealy had a big SB game and expectations were high for last year and he was average. I could see us taking a DE in the 1st this year(hello Thomas) and letting him learn from CJ/Peppers while he rotates in.Mike Adams and Captain were both solid pick ups. Adams lets Coleman move back to FS and Captain gives us a really good nickel CB to partner with Bradberry and Worley. We now don't have any "glaring" needs in the draft and we should be positioned to draft BPA throughout. Would have loved to pick up another OT in FA(let's be honest, Oher is going to be forced to retire) but I'm guessing they like Williams and want to draft another OT to start grooming. Doesn't help we need a RT and even RT's are getting substantial contracts.Charles Johnson basically fills the Brown spot, not sure if he can return kicks though. He has shown flashes with Minny, so maybe with a better offense he'll be able to shine. I really thought we'd go after Patterson if we were getting a WR from Minny, thought he'd be ideal to replace Ginn as a deep threat and KR.
3/11/2017 4:39:06 PM
Actually i think Johnson takes Ginn's spot and Shepard replaces Brown, but it doesn't really matter. Shepard has been a pretty good special teams player for TB and started to show some promise as a WR last year. Johnson is the burner who will fill Ginn's role in the offense. Sure, Patterson would have been nice, but he probably wants to go somewhere that he'd play more on offense (i.e. not another power rushing team) and he is probably more expensive than what the Panthers want to pay a WR3.
3/11/2017 4:51:44 PM
Welp, can't say Getts didn't at least try to give Rivera a competitive roster. That's a lot of moves.Overall, not sure I love getting a lot older on defense. Kalil could obviously be a huge upgrade on offense if he stays healthy and the receivers seem like good signings for the money. [Edited on March 11, 2017 at 5:08 PM. Reason : .]
3/11/2017 5:01:53 PM
Holy shit, I'm so tired of the Peppers love on my Facebook. How do people not remember Jon Beason calling him lazy and accusing him of taking plays off on sports radio?
3/12/2017 10:43:17 AM
he's one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history
3/12/2017 2:12:11 PM
I don't disagree, but that doesn't change the fact that at the end of his Panthers stint he went straight to management and said: "I don't want to play here anymore"
3/12/2017 3:17:36 PM
and now he wants to play here
3/12/2017 3:19:14 PM
he also seems to have the IQ of a toaster and an agent that has his hooks all the way through him.idk though. I didnt like him when he was washing up here 10 years ago or whatever. but I think on a 1 year farewell kinda thing it couldnt hurt. Hell, look at it the same way as the Jared Allen thing
3/12/2017 3:43:14 PM
I mean ealy was super Overrated based on his super bowl. He got those sacks going up against a 3rd or 4th string Left tackle .But he was locked up for 1.1 million of which we still have to pay 200k.And considering how important defensive line depth is particularly with injury prone CJ and 40 year old Peppers.. And if he'd left as a free agent next year we might have gotten a compensatory draft pick for him.1.1 million for a DE who can tie his shoes every week is a damn good deal.He led our DL in snaps last year I'm pretty sure for God's sake... To move up EIGHT spots in essentially the 3rd round?Bad trade in my opinion, but maybe we didn't think he would make the roster
3/12/2017 5:10:57 PM
3/12/2017 10:25:43 PM
^I agree, the move was definitely to make Ryan happy, but at the same time, both of those guys have proven to be injury risks. If both stay healthy we should be better than last year, but I just don't see both lasting the whole season healthy. Hope I'm wrong. Looking at the draft board, even before we moved Ealy or picked up Peppers, it's a high likelihood that we draft a DE at #8. If not we can probably find a DE at one of our 2nd round picks, this draft is pretty loaded with DL talent.
3/13/2017 9:20:06 AM
I think it's extremely likely that a RB gets drafted first.
