...outside Harris Teeter?I don't mind until it gets cold out. And now I'm pissed.

It's not even like they're at the front anyway. They also have "Parent with Child" or something like that.

i'm always torn on stuff like this. on one hand, i appreciate the gesture, and it's certainly better than the treatment some guys got after Vietnam. On the other, we don't need any reserved parking spots, and sometimes I get kinda uncomfortable with how we take this a little overboard.
12/3/2016 9:52:18 AM
I usually avoid those spots unless the parking lot is full
12/3/2016 9:54:09 AM
So if you guys avoid them, that means I can use them right?
12/3/2016 10:07:55 AM
oh i wouldn't avoid them. that's screwing myself and everyone else all at the same time.
12/3/2016 10:29:06 AM
park there and drag the sign over to some other cars
12/3/2016 10:45:56 AM
We don't have those at my Teet But yah I hear ya Duke.[Edited on December 3, 2016 at 11:24 AM. Reason : Honestly I'd prefer they label them for combat veterans ]

Reserved spots in general are pretty dumb. I think its less about offering a gesture to that particular community (veterans, pregnant women, parents w/ small kids) and more about a cheap PR show.I'd imagine if they really wanted to support a group like veterans, it'd be better to offer cost savings perks like free online ordering, discounts, etc. A sign in the parking lot is just there to say "HEY LOOK HOW MUCH WE CARE ABOUT VETERANS" without having to really do anything.
12/3/2016 2:40:24 PM
^^^^ i'm a combat veteran, whatever that means, but that doesn't really change my perspective. i'm just a dude, who had a job. it was a bit different than your average cubicle job, but i don't need any thanks or perks for it. i mean, i appreciate them, but they still make me feel a little weird.[Edited on December 3, 2016 at 2:57 PM. Reason : but maybe stuff like this is important for those who had it worse and have struggles from it]

I appreciate it. It's not over the top. As a result, I'm more likely to spend money there.I'm sure that factored into their decision to do this (not for me, or anyone specifically, but the overall benefit they will also see in return - in the aggregate, and from non-veterans that might also appreciate the gesture). While not easy to quantify, corporate good will has monetary value. Besides, do we now only like good corporate stewardship just if they support the things we value as individuals? For sure, I appreciated it (and thought it was smart) years ago when they reserved the spots for parents with small children.[Edited on December 3, 2016 at 8:53 PM. Reason : .]

In honor of this thread, I parked in a spot reserved for expecting mothers at Harris Teeter tonight.
12/3/2016 9:10:34 PM
If you pay attention, the parent with child spots are always right beside the buggy returns. That is a big help for those of us with small children, so yea, more functional than you think.
12/3/2016 9:19:46 PM
Hmm. I never had an issue when I had a small child. She could walk, and she could wait in her carseat.

Only if they're fat.
12/3/2016 11:57:44 PM

12/4/2016 4:31:13 PM
I use those. I mean, I tried to be a veteran.
12/5/2016 12:17:17 PM
i've never seen one used
12/5/2016 12:24:29 PM
If I was a veteran and parked in one of the aforementioned spots, I'd fake a limp when I exit and enter the car.[Edited on December 5, 2016 at 12:27 PM. Reason : .]

how about the 20 up front at home improvement stores? how many people that are so handicapped that they can't handle the extra few feet of walking from "normal" spots, are loading up mulch, gravel, sand, and landscaping blocks and heading home to put in an elevated flower bed?
12/6/2016 9:47:12 AM
I always tell my wife to park in the expectant mother spots because one day in fact she will be a mother...
12/6/2016 12:40:18 PM
12/6/2016 4:47:46 PM
its better to park far away anyway cause people will ding up your doors n shit
