Uhhhh, I don't think it's a measuring stick game at all...I hate to break it to you but there is a high likelihood that we get embarrassed in Death Valley on Saturday. I'm all for optimism and everything but there has been nothing so far this season to indicate we have much of a chance. We looked terrible against ECU, we looked mediocre in our wins over the cupcakes, we were inconsistent against WF, and won a coin flip against a bad ND team in a fucking hurricane. What's changed guys?

nothing, we are going to die saturday. This is the typical life of an NC State fan, we were beat down early in the season, had a few nice wins and now we are built up to the inevitable beatdown on Saturday.

Clemson hasn't exactly looked like world beaters either. BC is really the only team theyve embarrassed. Troy put up 24.

I think there is a chance we get embarrassed but not a "high likelihood."

I suppose maybe it depends on your embarrassment bar.

Measuring stick because Clemson is elite and at the top. We get to see how we measure up against the best. So yes measuring stick game. Hard to know what we have right now since we've played shit teams and should have won them all by double digits. ECU was a huge choke job, ND was a cluster, but we outplayed them.

Okay, it seems like we're just arguing semantics here, but...In that case, I guess every game is a measuring stick game then in the sense that "we get to see how we measure up against _____ caliber team". I suppose I've always thought of a "measuring stick game" as a match up against a team we're supposed to be evenly matched against to answer questions like, are we as good/bad as we thought, are we progressing, etc?

To me, Clemson is so much better than us that we may not be able to tell much about our team other than the fact that we are way outclassed by Clemson, so what exactly are we "measuring" here? I'm just not going to measure ourselves against Clemson and then come away thinking we're the worst team in the nation if we get dropped by a 4 TD margin. That's all I'm saying.

We are a different team than when we played our cupcake sched against will and maria, ecu, and odu. We've made progress each week, which I admittedly have to tip my hat to DD for.

We appear to have ironed out some things in our bye week and vs Wake, and from the Notre Dam game I saw a defense playing loose and cocksure (hard to gauge much else, but the line play was excellent and cocksure).

We will also pull out all the stops against Clempson strategy wise. All the trickeration Drinkwitz has ever conjured up as Dungeon Master on D&D night.

This will be our best coached and best played game of DD's tenure. I think we put up a surprising fight against clempson, in a high scoring affair.

With the right amount of turnovers in our favor, anything is possible.

For one, I think we are measuring how the offense looks in desperation mode.

Other than a few spurts in the ECU game, they've never really had to play with any sense of urgency. That won't be the case Saturday, because Clemson will def get their points. How does Finley look when we have to have first downs/points?

If you're Clemson, I don't think they've seen a running back on dayes' level all year. Be curious to see if we can get our running game going against them

We'll be up 17 at halftime and then lose by 20.

But this is a no-lose game. No one expects us to win, and getting beat by Clemson doesn't seem to lower anyone's expectations for future games.

^I feel the exact opposite. Clemson has looked beatable, less-so at home, but still beatable. Louisville has looked unstoppable at home(that FSU ass-whoopin comes to mind). Feel like if the Lamar Jacksons played Clemson at home they win by more than a TD.

Adding to that, Lamar Jackson has looked much better this season than Watson in actual gameplay and stats, and that if the Heisman was awarded today Jackson would win by a landslide, I see no way we win @Louisville.

I'd agree Clemson has a better homefield advantage overall, but I still think Louisville is a better team on a neutral field.

Watson is a slightly more polished passer, but Jackson might be the best running QB in America. He will absolutely smoke our LB's if we try to spy on him with them. Need to put a safety like Boone or Josh Jones on him all game.

1) Constant 10-yard cushion between DBs and WRs will kill us.
2) Never covering a RB out of the backfield will kill us.
3) Having no LBs or others spy the QB will kill us.

we didn't do the cushion against Wake forest. We were actually lining up in their face and jamming. Thats what got us beat a few times. I didn't watch the game before the wake game but maybe we changed that cushion thing after the ECU game?

We haven't had a good upset since #3 FSU and #7 Clemson so I'd love to see one here.

I do think that they are more beatable than Louisville.

I do think that we have about a 10% chance at this one (FPI puts it at 6.7% I think).

I will be happy if we keep the margin of loss within 14. Clemson has a 17 point line in Vegas.

I don't think they're more beatable than Louisville. Clemson's defense is going to murder us. I think we stand a better chance of scoring on Louisville and keeping that game close. I don't think there's any way we beat either team, but I don't see us scoring much on Clemson.

Just a couple extra Blurbs in our favor.

Additionally, the 12 oClock start time is a real positive for us. A little less rowdy Death valley. Plus its homecoming, so a lot of old fogeys will be there, much less rowdy than the students as well. It definitely won't be the INSANE stadium we saw when UL played there on Saturday night.

PLUS, Clemson plays FSU next week. Maybe a little bit of "looking over us to the next game" will be happening. Keeping the Clemson players focused on beating Pack will be a task.

our passing style pretty much neutralizes their pass rush, their biggest strength on defense. once the ball is out its a matchup game between our skilled players vs their lbs and dbs and we have elite skilled players so indont see anyone shutting us down.

the problem is stopping them. we need a lot of turnovers and if we hold them under 30 i think we win because im confident we can score 30 on anyone.
