I guess sometimes this is true...it depends on how the blacked-out person is behaving.

occasionally I've had conversations with some (usually physically small) chick, and she won't seem all that drunk, but then the next day she won't remember the conversation at all.

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think "blacked out" is a good functional definition.

also, I kinda feel like "blacked out" is worse than "unconscious." if she's unconscious, she might wake up - if she's really blacked out, she ain't gonna remember a thing.

I walked from Lineberry to Kaplan completely blacked out once. Vaguely remember the dark part on Gorman thinking how fucked I was if a drunk driver came along and I was walking in a black suit. So out of a 3 mile walk I had zero memory of probably 2.75 miles of it.

You can definitely actively do something and not remember it.

It's mighty difficult to know how drunk someone is, especially if you're also drunk. Passed out/unconscious is not a subjective thing.
