Just saw on PP that DD said the QB's will rotate series vs WMI don't really see how that benefits the offense to have 2 different guys changing all the time and asking the rest of the offense to adjust. It seemingly never works out well.
8/30/2016 8:33:04 AM
^ It's for evaluation purposes
8/30/2016 8:34:32 AM
I hate the rotating series crap, it only makes a difference if the players have different skillsets, but Finley and McClendon are very similar. I could see rotating quarters, but not series.
8/30/2016 9:04:53 AM
8/30/2016 10:26:05 AM
^^ The counter argument is that if one qb drops 4 TDs in the first quarter the second will be playing a very different defense in a situation with very different offensive mindset/needs.But I agree that switching QBs every series is an awful idea. There has never been a team in the history of football who had two QBs who were both so good a coach just couldn't decide which one to go with.
8/30/2016 10:35:24 AM
I'd love to have the problem of starting 1 QB and them going for 4 straight passing TDs and then having to wonder what to do with the other option at QB.

8/30/2016 11:06:05 AM
He hasn't seen JM play any meaningful downs in an actual game
8/30/2016 11:09:35 AM
^ he (DD) had multiple opportunities to do that last year and chose not to do it. Although that was a different offense, reading a defense, checking out of plays and making smart decisions with the ball are skills you either have or you dont. Maybe he dont. and if he dont but hes still competing with the white guy, he dont either.<insert dancing L here>
8/30/2016 11:33:25 AM
the white guy's body of work says that he don't

its good to alternate the QB at beginning of year if you worried about getting fired. as soon we lose a winnable game fans will say DD sucks he should have put the back up in otherwise
8/30/2016 11:48:25 AM
Meh. All the fans already know that he sucks. A QB controversy isnt going to change that fact. It will only reinforce that he probably made the wrong decision.

8/30/2016 12:05:03 PM
Remember last year when we were a couple shitty rain games from being 7-0 going into the Clemson game?now we dont have a QB
8/30/2016 1:58:10 PM
Eh, I don't think our QBs suck. I think we have 2 guys that are about a 7 out of 10(above-average) but neither one of them set themselves apart in camp. DD is now going to see who takes control of the team when the lights hit(he's talked about this several times with Brissett) and that'll be our QB. The reason he's being methodical and trying to see who can actually perform in a game is because you have 2 guys competing both with 3 years of eligibility left. Guy who wins the starting job could very well be "your guy" for the next 3 years.
8/30/2016 2:29:10 PM
i tend to agree that there's no real need to panic about the QB situation yet. if the ECU game rolls around and we still don't know, and neither impressed vs W&M then we can worry. McLendon has been touted as having a great arm, the transfer is familiar with Drinkwitz (and vice versa). in short, these guys are gonna be better than the Pete Thomas/Brandon Mitchell shit
8/30/2016 2:44:57 PM
Remember when we had pro bowl qbs and still struggled to win 7 games? Its almost as if the success of the team doesn't depend on having an all american qb.
8/30/2016 3:47:18 PM
^ehh...look at how we did when we didn't have NFL QBs...even worse.i'm stealing this from the comments sections of Backing The Pack dot com but it's pretty sad:

if you're asking me, how do i know for sure - beyond a shadow of a doubt - that these guys are better than the shit show of a QB who couldn't throw more than 10 yards downfield and a converted WR...i guess i can't make any guarantees, but i feel pretty confident in saying that. i think it's reasonable to assume neither of these guys are gonna be great. but they should be serviceable. i also didn't realize jalan mclendon had "bad numbers". he doesn't have any significant PT, but in mop up duty he's 8/14 for 69 (nice) yards. 0 td, 0 int. you can't draw any conclusions from that.[Edited on August 31, 2016 at 7:41 AM. How do we know they're better than Pete Thomas and Brandon Mitchell? Pete Thomas: Former 4*, went to a lower school, behind a shitty OL, got sacked at an insanely high rate and came in with 0 confidence. We then switched offenses on him and he fit like a round peg in a square hole.Brandon Mitchell: Former WR, converted to QB, couldn't win the job at Arkansas. We bring him in and is a glorified RB with limited passing abilities. Then he actually looks effective in his first game and then goes down for half the season. By the time he came back the season was a lost cause. Then we have our new QBs. Let's compare Pete Thomas to McClendon. Both former 4* QBs, both seem to have the tools to be effective, both were brought in to run 1 offense and are asking to play another offense. Difference is McClendon hasn't been asked to run an offense in a game, and Thomas had and failed miserably at it. McClendon is unproven, Thomas was a failure, that's two entirely different scenarios. Also, Pete Thomas couldn't beat out Brandon Mitchell, who didn't know the offense before, didn't know the coaches before, and was a converted WR who couldn't win the job at his previous school who didn't have a good QB. Let's compare Brandon Mitchell to Finley. Both started at other schools, one won the starting job and got hurt, the other was a converted WR who couldn't win the job. Finley lost his job due to injury and the back-up, who he beat out for the job, putting up solid numbers and proving to be a good QB with more years of eligibility, so it made sense to continue with him. So, it looks like: McClendon = Finley > Mitchell > Thomas. I'm not saying we have the next Wilson, Glennon, or Brissett ready to go, but I do think we're in a much better place than the year with Thomas and Mitchell. I mean the staff made it pretty clear the expectations were low for those 2 before the season, they made it VERY apparent before the season that Brissett was the best QB on the team and he was having to RS. Do you really think we move Meyers to WR if our QBs didn't inspire some confidence with our staff?
8/31/2016 9:22:08 AM
All i know is we have to beat a ranked team this year. That starts Thursday
8/31/2016 9:54:30 AM
I think the fact that we haven't selected a QB just shows this staff doesn't know what they're doing. ^what am I missing with this W&M being "ranked" joke I keep seeing pop up?
8/31/2016 10:06:46 AM
^^ Oh because William and Mary is ranked #10 in the FCS. Makes sense.[Edited on August 31, 2016 at 10:09 AM. Reason : ^perhaps you should offer your services!]
