I mean I completely empathize, because prior to this the electricity bills were exorbitant and we had problems keeping up with the summer bills and I kept thinking, how the fuck do people afford to live? actually I still say that, just not usually when I'm checking my power bill

Y'all clearly don't know how to do this.

$17 last month

I got a Nest thermostat when I bought my place and it's been really nice. It's only like 800sf but still my power bill hasn't gone over $50 this summer and I run it at 68 degrees every minute I'm home.

I have a nest at the beach. Auto away is awesome in the mid season when temps are moderate and people are only there on the weekend. The problem is I have to turn auto away off when its hot AF because the AC unit takes forever to catch up and the renters get pissed. FWP]

It definitely has its pitfalls. I think the scheduling part of the app is really confusing. I have set to away when I'm at work but on weekends I try to set it so it's on all the time since I come and go a lot. I end up sleeping in and wake up covered in sweat because it thinks I'm out of the house. It totally ignores my manual schedule #firstworldproblems

I'm rocking dat 190% Honeywell thermostat. It's a beast

What I dont get about the nest is they have completely stopped adding features. I am on all these message boards for vacation rental owners and we all want a vacation rental mode. VRBO/HomeAway/& AirBNB ball support the iCal calendar protocol. It should be easy for them to code in to the website where it can set the temp around check ins and check outs. They wont do it. Either that or 2 stages to auto away. The first being out for the day be back soon, the second phase could be property is vacant turn that bitch up to 80 AC, 50 heat. I had my power bills down to like 30 a month last winter there, but when we wanted to come we could not let it run till it was warm it would go back on auto away. Its a 2 hour drive but it would keep turning back off until someone was physically walking past the thermostat.

Mine was $144 last month for a 678 square foot apartment. Shit's cray.

A major factor is the temperature you keep the thermostat on (and how shitty your AC is). What temps do yall keep yours' set on? When I'm at the house, I usually have mine on around 77 or 78, and change it to 79 or 80 if I'm going to be out of the house for several hours. During these really hot days, I've been keeping on the higher end of these ranges as not to overwork the AC.
8/22/2016 3:31:42 PM
I keep mine around 70-72 all the time. Hot water heaters and how often you shower, run hot water in dishwashers, washing machines, etc are also big factors.
8/22/2016 3:36:56 PM
I'd need to wear pants, long sleeve shirt and socks to be comfortable lounging around at 70. Are you fat?
8/22/2016 3:44:47 PM
I keep mine around 73-74. My bill was around 135 in June then jumped to 190ish this past hot ass month but I also have like 3400 sq ft. so in relative terms that doesnt seem that bad since thats what it used to be in a 1500 sq ft house haha[Edited on August 22, 2016 at 3:46 PM. Reason : $]

Mine is on like 72 during the day and 70 while I sleep. It's a real shitty AC so if I try to put it above that, I get too hot. In a normal place, I'd do 74 during the day and 72 for sleep.
8/24/2016 9:33:20 PM
^^^Nah, and like if I'm about to shower, I turn the AC off completely, so I'm not freezing when I get out. But if it's really hot outside, I like inside to feel like a freezer.
