can you still get in free during lunch or whatever? I wouldn't mind going for the food when it's less crowded. maybe check out some animals and the children's art in Graham building. couldn't care less about the games/rides though.

^yes

For those that do not know:

11:30-1:30 weekdays
Enter through Gate 1 or 9
Purchase "lunch card" for $10 cash (cash only) (Note this card is for admission only, not for anything inside the fair)
Enter the fair, do what you wish, pay for what you want (e.g. lunch)
Return to gate by 1:30 with your "lunch card" and get your $10 back.

No problem. A lot of people confuse this promotion with getting a free lunch, which is incorrect. This simply gives you free admission to the fair, providing you enter / leave through Gates 1 or 9 by 11:30 and 1:30. You still pay for lunch, etc. inside the fair.

^And if you don't want it to die in a week you'll need to buy at least a 30 gallon tank and a really nice canister filter, or hang over the back filter. You'll also need to cycle the tank doing a "fish in cycle" cycling of the tank. That means you'll be buying a lot of stuff to save that fishes life. I would check the general for sale and pets section on craigslist since most people are ditching full 10 to 30 gallon setups for around $100.

As for me, I once again managed to buy a ticket and walk through the gate today without anyone taking it, so I'll be using it when I go again next weekend to watch the demolition derby.

Does anyone know if the cupcake place (Bluebird?) that they usually advertise here is selling again this year?

What kind of a fish are they holding there? Do they just give out goldfish at the fair?

LOL! It's comet goldfish of course. You can win one if you play some of the games. If you take proper care of it then it can grow to 12 inches. Most people toss them in a bowl though and they die in a few weeks, or months.

Your 55 gallon tank that you got off of craigslist is probably too small for comet goldfish too.

I go for the food and people watching, not the games/fish.

That would suffice, but damn it is pretty wild they give out those fish. Sure they won't reach max size for a while, but as you mention they do need a decent sized tank and good filtration. I was thinking they gave out Bettas too...those are much better suited to the bowl life, but I guess not.

^^They only do comet goldfish. It's sort of a waste of money though because petsmart sells comet goldfish for 14 cents.

We won it tossing ping pong balls. My beer pong training at work. I got a 2.5 gallon tank for now. I guess we can go bigger later if needed.

^^It stunts their growth if they stay in a small tank too long. Honestly, the cheapest way to get a fish tank of any size is to go on craigslist. You can get some really good deals because fish aquariums have low resale value. Most people are trying to get rid of them quickly too. If you upgrade someday then look in pets, or general sales on craigslist.

^The even better part though was the basket of deplorables. I think it was the 4 cylinder division that had a car with a Trump/Pence sign on the roof and there was another one that had "Vote Trump" spray painted on the side. The only thing that could have made it more awesome would have been if there was a Clinton and Johnson car too. I don't think their followers are too into motor sports though.

Oh and I managed to walk through the gate again without anyone taking my ticket, so I gave it away to some woman taking her daughters in when I was leaving.

Totally enjoyed it. My daughter enjoyed it even more. She took 8 rides overall. Mighty Mouse cost us a lot of time waiting in line. Dog stunt performance was funny. Turkey legs and blooming onions were tasty.
The fair is getting much bigger than two years ago. We spent about an hour in transit. They should provide more shuttles, because hundreds, even thousands of people have to commute by shuttles between parking lots and the fairground.

Most people don't plan like that

I prefer to walk 5 minutes past the shuttle pickup to my car.
