I guess they don't call it Hulu plus anymore.

I just signed up for the Hulu trial, because I'm really on the fence about paying for 2 subscription services. I already have Netflix, and I don't want to lose it due to House of Cards and the Marvel series, but is Hulu a good compliment to Netflix?

Is there much redundancy?

I've browsed through the network library and kinda like what I see, but is it worth having both?

Hulu has a lot of "current season" network and cable shows available the next day. They've also got some classic TV shows as well (Rockford Files, anyone?). Seems like hulu+netflix is a pretty good combo.

I honestly go Netflix + Amazon Prime and skip Hulu. Hate the ads.

I have Amazon Prime, but I feel like their movie selection blows. I didn't mention AP in the original post because I don't pay for AP for the streaming aspect.

Keep in mind there are two Hulu tiers. One ($7.99) has commercials. The other ($11.99) does not.

As stated, get Hulu if you want to watch current season shows. Hopefully Hulu is allowed to keep season (and previous season) episode backlogs.

I have all three. I just give my cousin my netflix password and he gives me his Hulu. See if you know somebody that would be interested in doing that with you. I've never had an issue where I couldn't watch something because they were. I also have my parent's HBO/Showtime subscriptions and MLB TV.

pool your resources, yo

edit: If I had to pick I'd go with Netflix and HBO Go over Hulu. Not sure how much HBO costs by itself but I watch that more than Hulu.

agreed. but i only pay for netflix. got a hulu account from a friend, so i may have a different opinion if i was paying for both. but i think both are good and in their own way. but the ads do suck

Just get both. There is not a ton of overlapping. Watching current shows on Hulu is great and Netflix's original content is stellar. The movies on both are subpar (Hulu's movie selection is abysmal). Amazon actually has a pretty solid movie collection.

We have all three and are pretty satisfied.

^ Pretty much this.

Hulu is good for the current shows you watch, up the next day. Netflix has other options for older shows, obviously. Both actually have some good original series, so that's a great bonus. Movie on both tend to be meh most of the time.

Though, as said earlier, couldn't hurt to pool subscriptions with a friend or family member.

I have Hulu Plus (pay for the non-ad version), Netflix, Amazon Prime and Slingbox.

And an antenna for over-the-air channels.

I recently dropped directv and bought a tivo OTA and good HD antenna. Main thing I miss is CNN but the tivo lets me skip the commercials and plugs into my netflix/amazon accounts so I'm adjusting. No contract is a plus.

I don't pay for either cause other people have given me their passwords, but I end up using Hulu like 90% of the time. It has a lot of seasons of shitty reality tv shows that I like and has some old Nickelodeon shows from when I was a kid. Plus every episode of Seinfeld. I never have a problem finding anything to watch on there. There aren't too many movies though so Netflix is better for that if that's your thing. Plus I can keep up with current shows now that I don't have cable.

I like Netflix because you can set up profiles. Which i believe you can't do on Hulu? That way my recently viewed or recommends don't get messed up.

^^And I think all the seasons of Dawson's Creek. They're both on my to watch list. I really don't see myself running out of things to watch on Hulu anytime soon. All I've been using Netflix for is OITNB and old seasons of New Girl.

[Edited on July 13, 2016 at 9:45 AM. Reason : ^Yeah good point. A shared Hulu account kind of sucks with a lot of different viewers.]

I get HBO and Netflix and I use my dad's Amazon Prime account. Sporting events are the only reason why I still have cable. The only lull in my sports calendar is between the end of NBA and the beginning of football and soccer. I actually watched 10 minutes of an Australian Football League match on Foxsports. ESPN should just go the HBO route. I'd imagine they would lose money in that deal? Cable providers probably would pay ESPN enough just to keep them attached to their service.

netflix is getting awfully lame the way their movie streaming as gone down while simulataneously having their dvd selection somehow being significantly worse than it was like five years ago, plus they're bumping my price up

I read somewhere that they're losing rights to a lot of stuff now that they've starting pushing their own original TV shows and Movies.
