I'm not big into gaming but I've been thinking about getting a new console to kill some time when I actually have some spare time. That said, I have no clue what the pros and cons are of the Xbone vs PS4. Since I won't play that much I will stick to single player games so online experience is more of an afterthought. Is there anything that really sets the two apart from each other? Great single player games only on one platform?

I have a PS4 and see no reason whatsoever to get an Xbox One. There's literally one single exclusive on the Xbox One I'd like to play--Rise of the Tomb Raider--but it's only a console exclusive (also available on PC), and only a timed exclusive at that (with the PS4 release coming later this year)!

Sony just had a dynamite showing at E3 with a ton of very interesting games that will be available these next two years.

Plus, I don't think Microsoft offers any services comparable to PlayStation Vue (a cable substitute) or PlayStation Now (a subscription- and rental-based game streaming service).

I have an XB1, 360, PS2, and PS3 and like each for different reasons. I generally get both systems but have been reluctant to get the PS4 until the announcement of the new God of War. I think both systems have fun exclusive games but Microsoft (historically) has had better exclusive games for me. I do agree with your comment on the PS UI. Definitely not my favorite.

What's the difference between SlingTV and PS Vue?

Thanks for the input, seems like PS4 might be the way to go. I don't really care about the media center aspect as I already have enough streaming devices as is. And the online thing doesn't make much difference to me since I wouldn't get enough value from the cost.

As far as games I'd want to play, no clue really. Haven't bought a game since GTA V and who knows what before that. Fallout is definitely on the list.

It took me about 2 months to complete the entirety of Fallout 4 (all achievements, endings etc) not including any DLC which I did not download. Great game. Available for both systems.

Multiplatform games generally run better on the PS4.

Fallout 4 has a better framerate in the overworld on the PS4, but also seems to crash more often (3 times on PS4 vs 2 on X1 and PC)

Well considering my gaming interest is quite casual I think I would prefer a $350 investment that already comes with a game vs the cost of a gaming PC. Glad we could get the gaming snobbery out of the way.

if you already have a powerful computer and just want to play in the living room, possibly consider a steam link

Uncharted 4 nearly made me buy a PS4 outright. Vue is making me consider it even more so but I want to know the release window for the new hardware before doing so.

Thats one thing to consider, the longer you wait, buying a console right now becomes a worse and worse decision.

The post was a bit trolly, but it wasn't snobby. Bethesda games in particular have a much higher value ceiling on PC than they do on consoles. Even the recent addition of 'mods' on consoles doesn't compare with the library on PC.

I completely understand the lower cost to entry consoles have and the experiences they can provide. Like I said I nearly pulled the trigger on PS4 for a single game. I'm surprised I haven't after Sony destroyed E3 this year.

If you have a gaming PC there's not much need to get an Xbox because Microsoft will be bringing most exclusives to the Windows 10 store.

That said I have an Xbone plus a gaming PC and enjoy it. If you're gonna get one wait for the Slim that will be coming out soon. If you pick PS4 wait for the Neo and either get that or get one of the base models that will be much cheaper at that point.

I'll probably get a PS4 next year when the prices are low because all the good stuff they showed at E3 this year is at least a year out, but I really want that Spider-Man game.

Having used both, Vue is far superior IMO. The DVR functionality alone is enough of a difference for me.

I'm going to wait VR out a little and let it mature before I jump into that. I'd wait for the updated consoles but really I want something to play this summer and if the new games will have to work on the current consoles I'm fine with that. There are plenty of games currently out to hold my interest for far longer than I have free time.

I have a PS4 and Xbox One. I've been pretty disappointed with PS4. No good exclusives so far except Uncharted 4. Xbox One has had 3 Forzas, Quantum Break, Halo 5, Sunset Overdrive, etc. There are also a lot more games coming out that I want for Xbox One vs PS4. The only games PS4 games I'll want are TLoU2 (rumored), Days Gone, No Man's Sky (maybe), and maybe The Last Guardian (graphics look bad). IMHO, PS4 is better for RPGs and that's about it. It's more popular because a lot of people jumped on the anti-MS bandwagon after their initial launch.

I actually lent the PS4 to a friend so her son can use it. PS4 interface sucks, and they take forever to come out with new features/updates. Plus, most of my friends are on Xbox. PS4 didn't even have a friend online notification until a few months back (yeah, the one that 360 and PS3 both had and Xbox One had not long after launch). And they still don't allow you to change your screen name. They actually claimed once that their engineers "don't even know if it's possible."

That said, I think it's a good strategy to wait for VR. If you haven't tried Vive or Oculus, definitely try those before you consider buying PSVR. I've tried all 3 and PSVR was the only one that was noticeably worse. The other 2 gave me no problems, but the darkness/screen door effect on the PSVR made me a bit queasy. Also, unless they change their plans, its motion controllers are the PS3-era Moves. I haven't tried Oculus's motion controller, but Vive's is awesome. If you've waited this long, I'd either just go PC if you don't already have a gaming PC, or wait for end of next year when Project Scorpio comes out. It's going to be 50 more powerful than the PS4 Neo (which is itself 120% more powerful than PS4).

I recently bought a PS4 because mostly for the exclusives (Uncharted, The Last of Us 2, the Last Guardian, Shenmue 3). VR may be the future but I'm willing to let the fad die down and let everybody work out the bugs before I buy in.
