Yeah, looks pretty bad. Still waiting to see who claims responsibility for this one. Turkey is in a bad way. I've seen that state media isn't even reporting the bombing.Update: now seen that ISIS is claiming responsibility. John Kerry just trotted out new, I'm sure administration mandated phrase, "non-state violent actors". [Edited on June 28, 2016 at 6:17 PM. Reason : Update]

Wow at the video of the cop shooting one of the bombers, getting out of dodge and then the asshole blowing himself up. Probably saved dozens of lives. Also it looked like a horrendously planned attack. Terrorist was just running around like an idiot..

Listen to John Kerry please, the new approved term is non-state violent actors.

https://twitter.com/sco1905/status/747902680220205056Here's a video of one of the attackers being shot, immobilized, people fleeing him, then him setting off his bomb. It's too blurry to be gory, but it's still very gruesome .
6/28/2016 11:16:50 PM
^^ it's common knowledge that if you say "radical Islamic terrorism" three times fast it goes away. It's the reverse-Beetlejuice.
6/29/2016 9:25:26 AM
Maybe the terrorists really want it to be called "Islamic terrorism" by the authorities and world leaders, because they really think they're doing this in the name of a religion and their god, and it's a righteous and just thing. and maybe it really pisses them off when it's not called "islamic terrorism" by authorities and world leaders? and maybe kerry and others aren't officially calling it "Islamic terrorism" because they don't want to give the terrorists the satisfaction? or something like that?[Edited on June 29, 2016 at 10:19 AM. You would think with monthly artacks turkey would push harder to fight Isis.
6/29/2016 3:22:01 PM
Going back to that video, the blast radius isn't huge, so I'm assuming the vests are full of ball bearings or something, to do more damage?I read where the guy in the video's only purpose was to cause enough chaos at the front gates to let the other two slip in unnoticed, because that airport is actually on of the more secure airports.

That cop was a trained pro that acted cool and saved dozens of lives. Fuck this "good guy with a gun" shit. Any random idiot would have opened fire before having a clean shot. That guy knew exactly what to do.

3rd largest airport in Europe, fyi. So there could have been a LOT more casualties.

Fucking wild. Erdogan is pretty awful, he's moving in a very dictatorial direction. Turkey has had military government on a couple of occasions before so this isn't unprecedented. It'll be interesting to see what motivated this, who was involved (maybe ISIS supporters, the Russians, maybe just anti-Erdogan, etc.).
7/15/2016 4:32:21 PM
And as I posted this last thing Reuters is saying that the military has taken control of the state.

7/15/2016 4:49:16 PM
Nah. Erdogan and the military have had an icy relationship for a while now because he jailed some high ranking military officials. He's also been attempting to make himself into a Putin style semi-dictator. He's cracked down on free speech, he's been making the government less secular, etc. The modern state of Turkey was founded as a secular government and the military was charged by Ataturk with keeping it that way. I think this is one to do with Erdogan than anything else.^Yeah, Turkey and Russia are historic enemies. They aren't likely to buddy up any time soon. [Edited on July 15, 2016 at 4:55 PM.
