The official game for people who suck ass at bf 1
5/11/2016 11:55:15 AM
god damn it, time moving forward, I was just mastering civ 4 and haven't played civ 5 yet, (mostly because at one point I remember players saying 4 was better, is that still the case?)
5/11/2016 12:35:30 PM
^was a little rough before the expansions but its good now. I have trouble picking between CIVs because I kinda forget what is in which one.
5/11/2016 4:51:35 PM
Just skip Civ: BE that was a fucking mess of a game. I'm not a fan of the new graphics.
5/11/2016 5:04:42 PM
Times are changing.
5/11/2016 5:11:18 PM
Civ IV was still probably more complete and complex than V, but with the expansions V turned into a very good game. I never touched beyond earth but I've been waiting for VI. These games are so fun, can't wait to see what kinds of changes they've made. I would live it if they have more individual city management, sort of like some of the community patches that exist.

5/11/2016 5:46:11 PM
I will forever be a fanboi of Civ II. Best civ ever IMO.
5/11/2016 10:33:42 PM
Haha, Civ 2. Once you got railroads and howitzers it was over. I'm engineer building railroads to all your cities and using infinite movement to bombard you into submission.
5/11/2016 10:37:19 PM
The comments in the OP's link are hilarious
5/11/2016 10:37:57 PM
civ 2 and 3 were just so hopelessly outdated compared to 4
5/12/2016 3:55:03 PM
Having not played in 13 years, i can remember that 2 had some key features that no later game hadAircraft movement and airfieldsAlpine unitsFreight trucks or caravans to move shieldsMilitary unit home cities- affects war wearinessBarbarian nations ( isis) as well as revolutions if unhappiness reached half your citiesMore realistic system for foreign cotizens
5/12/2016 8:25:19 PM
I don't remember in 4, but 5 definitely allows you to move food or production via intraciv trade, garrisoned units can reduce unhappiness depending on social policies in place, unhappiness will produce revolutionaries/barbs. Dissatisfaction can lead to political revolution and force you to flip ideologies. I think 2 was way better than 3, and 4 was better than 5 (although 5 actually got pretty good with dlc and is even better with some of the amazing mods out there). 5 was hugely simplified compared to 4, I hope they don't dumb things down for newbies again.
5/12/2016 8:42:36 PM
2 is way better than 3. I just didn't take to 4 at all for some reason. Never played 5.
5/12/2016 11:01:17 PM
I just hope for a better end game in terms of war. Civ 5 late game AI is pretty weak in that regards, especially with naval units. You can just sit and snipe with subs all day long
5/13/2016 7:51:27 AM
Would be nice to see some improvements in performance between turns late too, don't enjoy waiting a minute or two for the CPU to catch up.
5/13/2016 12:48:38 PM
Oh, and an AI that plays better in harder game modes, not just the same AI that cheats (no fog of war, science boosts, etc)
5/13/2016 1:02:40 PM
yeah, instead of improving coding and ai, they just add more features, graphics and the ai often gets weaker.
5/13/2016 3:52:43 PM
I've found each sequel just expanded things so much/added layers that the past versions were just totally obsolete but then I always read these comments about civ 5 being different/simplifying things/more casual so I dunnoI just read an interesting thread comparing 4 and 5, I didn't realize 5 took the drastic step of one unit per tile...interesting
5/15/2016 7:24:19 PM
It's not really a question. 5 was a massive simplification. DLC added some complexity back. First time it had happened in the series. Up until then every iteration had added mechanics and depth.
5/15/2016 8:42:31 PM
I'm eager for 6...but still playing 5. Anyone wanna do multiplayer?
6/2/2016 1:02:37 PM
^^ Yeah in 5 I miss the soft power of using culture to expand borders and cause revolution or unrest in neighboring nations
6/2/2016 1:16:06 PM
Devs played for over an hourhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRSbI8NANno&index=2&list=TLu8Znhlkj1JUwNzA4MjAxNgTheres a few other little videos linked there too that they released this week.
8/7/2016 9:02:47 AM
Art style looks fine on the zoomed out view. Do not like the UI but that could be placeholder stuff in some cases.
8/7/2016 9:42:59 AM
Watched the devs play as Brazil for an hour and it seemed pretty cool. Not sure what difficulty they were at but the Barbarians seemed more evolved and competent. I thought I'd hate the art direction but after watching the whole video it's grown on me a lot. It just looks clean. The UI stuff was annoying, but I think I heard them mention a couple times the resolution was 720 for the livestream, and a lot of the clunky UI elements will scale down. I'll definitely watch more of these across the next 2 months as we get closer to release.
8/8/2016 8:37:44 AM
any word on the system requirements?
8/19/2016 3:21:47 PM
they need to make a cloud based game to keep up with the times.
8/19/2016 10:05:04 PM
^ look at the last Sim City. failed miserably and was quickly canceled. I think thats one of the great things for Civ multiplayer, is theres little "cloud" support needed, so it works forever. They released another play video this week, playing Germany (its pretty short, only a few minutes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgvfU-1ycUs
8/20/2016 10:37:42 AM
^They probably got in big trouble for accidentally leaking a list of a bunch of leaders. They were doing their twitch stream of the 2 of them playing Germany, and at one point accidentally opened a page of the Civolopedia which shows a whole bunch of leader names not revealed yet.*Spoilers*: http://i.imgur.com/Q0GJwl1.pngEdit: Just clicked your link, the video i'm referencing was like the Brazil playthrough you linked a few posts up, only was just broadcast this past Thursday. Out today, generally getting good reviews. Will probably play some this weekend.
10/21/2016 2:37:27 PM
I will be getting in massive time this weekend. I was up at midnight when this and Battlefield 1 unlocked, but I couldn't bring myself to play any. Can't wait to get off work in one hour and get home to load this shit up.
10/21/2016 2:53:14 PM
Oh man may have go look into grabbing this and playing some this weekend
10/21/2016 3:32:00 PM
Definitely just got it myself - FWIW Green Man Gaming has it on sale (sale price applies when added to your cart) for $47.99 (steam key)
10/21/2016 3:46:28 PM
I was meeting how much trouble I would get in for installing this on my dope ass work laptop.Definitely want to get this. Saw a few good YouTube videos of top civ v guys playing and it looks really good. Sigh, it's about time I bought a new computer anyway.
10/21/2016 11:56:12 PM
The new interface is a little confusing for a Civ regular. Some stuff is the same, other stuff is very different. It takes too much clicking to do some pretty simple shit at this point. Having said that, it's got some interesting new ideas. We'll see how this plays out.
10/24/2016 12:32:38 AM
Pretty much how I felt I gave it some time this weekend took some getting used to and still have some stuff to figure out like the whole religion stuff and exactly how housing and entertainment works as it seems to be by city now rather than overall like happiness in Civ V. I typically play random leader huge map with only domination as the win condition to ensure the game lasts a while so all the religion stuff probably wont matter much to me. It started me as Arabia and one of my first few cities was Aleppo so I was like yep time to reroll next time I play haha.
10/24/2016 8:27:30 AM
I have had a good first game and intro to Civ VI so far. I started a huge marathon game at Prince level as Germany. I quickly ran into a half dozen nations in my immediate area, as well as 4-5 city states. I was carrying on a peaceful existence with a whopping two cities when Athens declared war on me. I proceeded to repel their attack and we gave peace a chance. Wasn't a lot longer before they declared a sneak attack again, and this time they dragged Gandhi into it against me. At this point I had built some defense so I massacred their hoplites and crushed Athens (Greece only had their capital), and then I turned to Gandhi, who was complicit in this affair. I took Hyderabad and then rolled up their capital, putting two nations out of their misery. All was was peaceful and good for a while. I was able to expand in the areas between where India and Greece had been, so I built up my Civ on central to northwestern side of the continent. I was content to stay where I was, but soon my next closest neighbor, Rome, decided to get in on the sneak attack action, because it has worked out great so far. I quickly dispatched my troops to the border to help repeal the invasion, as the Roman troops were slowed in attacking my first town by some woods, jungles, and a river. I sent a few in to reinforce Berlin, but I also took the side route (I had been trading from my capital to theirs so I had a road that ran close to Berlin) and used this to flank the attacking force. I caught them unawares and after they tried unsuccessfully to siege my city, I unleashed hell. The attack quickly broke up, but I pursued their units and crushed them all. After that Rome sued for peace, knowing that they had been bested, but I was merciless. They had six towns in a sort of L shape, plus an allied city state on the side. I decided the best way to carve them up was to hit their least defended town in the middle section to divide the empire and then conquer the cut off portion, including the city-state. After that was done, I rolled up the rest of Rome in short order. Now I am sitting pretty holding the entire northern half of the continent and just making the journey across the sea to the second continent. I didn't see the World Rankings for a while so I wasn't sure what my standing was relative to everybody else, but after checking that out I am either leading or in the top three for every victory condition. Looks like I could pretty easily wrap up the domination victory, but not sure what sort of victory I want to pursue yet. Either way, fun first round.

I have played the Civ games, I-V, ever since my neighborhood friend introduced the game to me when I was in 3rd or 4th grade in the early 90s. I've liked each iteration but probably played 4 the least due to grad school and just generally not being into pc gaming between 2005-2007. Civ II and III definitely do not age well but Civ II was really what elevated the game to what it is and continues to be today.I spent maybe 250 hours on Civ V and the Brave New World expansion to me was the pinnacle of the series.I played for about 90 minutes last night. There is a lot going on in the game from the get-go. I do like how doing certain shit can speed up techs or civics. The city management screen is a bit more of a clusterfuck though with all these settlements you can build inside your region (or whatever the cities are called now).Hope we can maybe try a TWW online game at some point .

6 has been the most complete initial release of a Civ title. It's got a lot. That being said, they've still got a lot of work to do. AI and Diplomacy need a lot of love from the devs, as do some of the Agendas. There are also some exploits and bugs that make it hard not to cheese the shit out of a campaign. Unit cycling is.. enraging at times. But compared to initial releases of the past titles, 6 is fantastic. Japan, Germany, and the Aztecs are probably my top 3 favorite civs right now. Sumeria and their donkey carts are up there too, but they just seem too broken to take seriously. Expecting those to get nerfed hard.
10/28/2016 7:08:33 AM
^You're welcome.
10/28/2016 8:25:03 AM
didn't like at all what I read on ign about bigger is better once again and how it's a huge race to get the most land and territory again
10/29/2016 4:55:17 PM
Yah, playing wide is the way to go right now. Kinda wish they'd add more options to go tall.
10/30/2016 3:30:57 PM
I usually play wide anyways, so this suits my style just fine. That said, I get why people who don't play like that aren't as thrilled. I do think it is a lot easier currently to play big compared to Civ V, which had some pretty steep penalties for building out and made it a lot more difficult to play conquest.
10/30/2016 3:42:24 PM
Rise and Fall is pretty fun

Like: - Loyalty returns the concept of cultural and societal impact back into the game. - The golden age/dark age mechanics while needing some tweaking are good conceptually overall. - AI is seeming to just spam religious units less thankfully. No Like: - Pacing is this game is still completely screwed up at every play speed option. - Why does this game still insist on putting all the civilizations within 5 spaces of each other to start even on huge maps. I do not want to be so cramped, that's why I play a big map, and then at the endgame I see huge swathes of unoccupied land halfway across the world. - Diplomacy AI is still fucked. How does it make any sense that you denounce me for having a small army or not spreading my religion aggressively. How does it make any sense for my rivals to want me to be stronger? All of these relationships are one sides. I can bend over backwards for another civ and they won't do shit for me.

Years ago I played a mod called "total realism" that addressed everything you could ever complain about.https://forums.civfanatics.com/forums/gedemons-civilization-a-total-overhaul-project.576/This might be of interest for you today.
