So I want to buy a decent sized lego set (like a 700+ piece Millennium Falcon or something). And assemble it at work, working on it like 5-10 minutes at a time when I need a small break from work.

A better angle to this troll would have been explaining some consequence and remaining oblivious to feedback of this behavior's social acceptance.

It's not weird for me. I have the Episode IV Millennium Falcon (7965) and the Episode VII Millennium Falcon (75105) on display at my desk. I didn't build them at my desk, and I don't advise you to do it either, but that's just because of the size. I've built other small models at my desk without comment from anyone.

You gave us no information about where you work but you asked for advice suggesting you question the appropriateness

It might be ok depending on the job and the people you work with. At my last job I brought my SNES to work, so we could play on break and the boss was cool with that. At my current job I would get in trouble if I did that.

^No. They are for everyone. It's one of those toys that people of all ages can enjoy playing with. It's a 3D puzzle. Adults like puzzles.

"Real adults" don't follow diagrams, they build their own structures using 10s of 1,000s of bricks. (or 5+ million bricks and 20+ tons for the largest Lego model ever, see first link and pics at end)

Most or all of the above are amazing but static structures. How about working machines?

V8 engine
3D printer
Assembly line
Roller coaster
Guns
Cloning device
Rubik's cube solving robot (5.35 sec - beat human record at the time, and that too, without pre-scanning unlike human solvers)
Wheelchair
Knitting loom
Clock with "digital" display
Pinball
Car factory
Candy machine
Printer
Computer
Harpischord
Air conditioner
Sudoku solver
Beer machine
Bridge-laying tank
Walking robot
Robotic grabbing arms
Life-size car powered by air
Difference engine -- mechanical computer (can solve 3rd degree polynomials to 3-4 places, modeled after Charles Babbages' Difference Engine from mid 19th century

Great Ball Contraption -- the best Lego machine! (first 2 links)

Yup, clearly, only for kids to follow diagrams.

If any of you knockers can build the GBC on your own in 5 years, I will give you $100K.

What's the point of legos if you're just gonna build the thing once following the directions and then leave it?

I thought the whole point of legos was to be creative and build imaginative shit.

I was more of a Construx kind of kid, i loved those things.

There was also another set I played with some, it had tubes that connected together, and some mechanical pieces, but I don't remember the details very well or the name.

Legos are for kids. Build something with real materials, instead of lego blocks ya babies.

Its nothing like a puzzle. Because puzzles don't provide you with instructions on how exactly to solve (build) the puzzle.
