https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_mule

Quote :
"A Moscow Mule, also known as a Vodka buck, is a mule made with a high-quality vodka, a spicy ginger beer, and lime juice, garnished with a slice or wedge of lime. It is usually served in a copper mug. The cocktail became popular during the vodka craze in the United States during the 1950s. The name refers to the popular perception of vodka as a Russian product."

Try it; you'll like it.

I'm buzzing because of it.

They are typically made strong...and I'm definitely a fan. Ginger beer is pretty awesome.

^^ Yeah, Moscow Mule might be the 2nd best drink.

Dark & Stormy is the best, hands-down.

I assume it's in the soft drinks section with the glass bottle 6 packs of IBC Root beer and Jones Soda, yes? I've just never looked for it.

the dark and stormy isn't bad, but gossling just isn't great rum.

try a bentley
mt gay XO, lime squash/frutee lime (you aren't getting this sodas any place but barbados so ginger beer and fresh muddled key lime works), angostura bitters and a cherry garnish

Yes, I've had many a Moscow Mule. needless to say they're pretty popular around here

just wondering why high-quality vodka is required. isn't that like making a daiquiri with high-quality rum or a margarita with super premium tequila?

Ginger beer, limes, and booze are all pretty delicious.

So it's not surprising this is delicious.

Why the mug though?

I use this stuff:

http://www.pickettbrothersbeverage.com/ginger-beer-syrup/

Plus a SodaStream. Plus whatever Vodka we have.

The syrup/concentrate is key because you can control how much flavor there is paired with the Vodka.

It's tradition based on the gimmick originally created to sell Russian vodka to the U.S. in the 1950's. The wiki page describes it.

I found a pretty awesome real copper mug (no lining) at an Army-Navy surplus store.

I have to take issue with that picture I posted, though. I mean, who wastes a whole lime as a garnish? That's two Moscow Mules!

I finally figured out that Reed's is not actual ginger beer.

I picked up some diet Regatta the other day, and it's at least ten times more gingery.

Reed's makes a ginger beer, right? Think that's the cheapest option they have at my HT.

Yeah, guys, I know.

I'm saying that whatever they're selling as ginger beer is tasting a whole lot more like ginger ale to me since I've tried other brands of ginger beer.

There could be something wrong with my tastebuds.

Bridget, what want is some Cock 'n Bull.

It's what was originally used.

They sell it at Dillon's, a chain of Kroger.

There's a cinnamon whiskey called "Fireball" that's quite popular as well if people feel like going wild...
