So I've been reading this Sean Penn and El Chapa and I just can't help but wonder why he's not behind bars at this point for aiding and abetting. If my spouse committed a crime and I met with them for any reason, I'd be held criminally responsible. How is Sean Penn any more special? It isn't like he's a member of the press.

Unless we find out he was somehow part of an undercover effort to bring El Chapo in, I say put Penn's tail behind bars.

why are you saying that Penn is not part of the press, the interviews were for a feature he published in rolling stones so he was acting as a journalist

if this is a crime, shouldn't it be a crime for any journalist to meet with any criminal? and can't you see the obvious problems with that?

it's the nuTrump wave of thinking. the 1st amendment doesn't actually apply to the press except when they say so. it's how a newspaper can get kicked out of a debate

imagine the uproar if Obama took the same tack was Fox News was telling bald face lies about him over the last 7 years

"The Press" isn't come club where they give out badges or licenses. "The Press" is basically any person performing a journalistic activity. Courts have ruled that basically anyone can act as "The Press". I find it helpful to just think of it as a subclass of speech.

file this under the "things the OP didn't give too much of a thought about before posting" file

taking a breath before posting/creating a topic isn't a bad thing

Who says Sean Penn isn’t a real journalist?

this is the correct way to criticize the story

I have to admit, I chuckled at this:

Quote :
" Penn did not show up at the interview with Guzmán prepared to ask the tough questions. He didn’t even have a pen. "
