LAWLZ

Since congress has worked so well and most GOP reps go into a 2 yr tantrum whenever the words gunz and control are brought up together.

Ever been lied to? by a politician?

Not that I disagree with these controls, but there is always reason to be suspicious of more to come

And Obama covered up the gun walking programs that purposefully sold guns illegally and many innocent people died as result from those guns. At the least, he should release the rest of those documents he exercised executive privileged over so those responsible can be held accountable. Then he can avoid being a hypocrite on the subject.

Something he said was how ridiculous it was that "a terrorist suspect" is on a no-fly list, but can go and buy a gun.

The premise that it would be okay for a terrorist suspect to be out and about is pretty preposterous.

Or the hiring of more FBI agents to streamline the process of background checks.

That's nice.

How about more FBI agents to arrest the terrorist suspects?

Or what about how he explicitly said that his upcoming actions would not have prevented the last three mass shootings.

^^^^ I'm concerned because they seem to be deliberately not defining when you have to get a dealer license and conduct background checks. The facts page on the White House website seems to suggesting that selling just a single gun might trigger the requirement. I don't know about most people, but I like to know when I am and am not breaking the law. They should think about opening the background check system to everyone so that anyone selling a gun and call in a background check and not just dealers.

^^^ The problem with the Terror Watchlist is Due Process. You can basically be put on for any reason, they don't have to tell you why, and it takes the next best thing to divine intervention to get off. People have been added for things like protesting the actions of the local sheriff, writing blog posts criticizing the actions of local police, or being friends with an Occupy Wallstreet protester.

I've looked into buying a used gun just to save money and responsible sellers will ensure the transaction takes place at a gun store so you can make sure a background check is done. Though I can see how it is frustrating to not know the specifics on the laws.

Even Obama had his staff research for months to see if his own actions would be legal, that's when you know you're pushing it a little

^^^ yup. it's not the preferred course of action. he'd strongly prefer congress pass something, but lollerskates like that would fucking happen.

^^ depends on the type of gun and the state. in NC the buyer needs a permit if it's a handgun, otherwise nothing is required.

^^^ In NC he would have to go to his local sheriff, go through a background check process and obtain a pistol purchase permit, unless you were selling a long gun. Then you as the seller could keep the permit to prove you sold to a legit buyer and establish a papertrail.

Or, if the buyer had a Concealed carry permit, he could buy from you without needing to obtain a pistol purchase permit, as his card proves that the has been vetted within the past 5 years.

depends on the firearm type and which state each of you live in.

For NC: handguns require a purchase permit or a concealed handgun permit, both of which include a NICS check to receive. Long guns are just 18+.

so if there is a loophole in this state, it's with private long gun sales. as I've said for a while, abolish the purchase permit, revamp the CHP into a firearms permit, and have all sales require a firearms permit.

^only residents of durham county have to register firearms. for purchase permit sales, the seller must retain the permit. there is no record for any other private sales that is required by law. when I've sold firearms, i required a CHP and to complete two copies of a bill of sale.

I turned on Hannity on the way home b/c I was curious how this was being portrayed. It was actually comical. Typical taking your guns crap. Nowhere did I hear the actual details of what Obama is proposing, which by itself is innocuous and isn't really going to affect any of us.

I think this is being done more for a platform from which to discuss gun violence. What he's doing is constitutional, and we know this because it is so ineffectual. For something with teeth, he'd need congress.

My fellow Republicans are up in arms about nothing.

I honestly don't remember now. I imagine it's either petty (class 3 misdemeanor) or harsh (say goodbye to your rights).

I find it hypocritical that you think law abiding firearm owners are such a danger when the overwhelming vast majority of them would never speak these words, much less put them into action. Meanwhile, you post with joy for the world to see your desire to murder others. Who is the real danger here?

The NC attorney general released a document that says a private seller should retain the pistol purchase permit, but there is actually no law that requires it. NC GS 14-402

Buying a handgun without the PPP is a class 2 misdemeanor

wat?

The majority of gun owners are responsible gun owners. And I'd wager most guns, like mine, get locked up in a safe and are taken out to shoot at a range...or to provide eye candy when I'm shucking my corn. That is mindless banter to say people with guns will kill people.

so I have to sit here and worry about that minority that goes mentally insane and start killing people.. ok cool, that's a good tradeoff

why are you guys so stupid with this

ok, let's break down some simple mathematics for you since you are apparently retarded

I have no gun

that means there is a 0% chance that I am going to murder anyone
