I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but Wes Anderson is my favorite.Of course the Coens. If JJ Abrams pulls off Star Wars, he'll be up there in the action genre.[Edited on December 16, 2015 at 10:14 AM. Reason : a]
12/16/2015 10:13:59 AM
Nolan
12/16/2015 10:16:26 AM
wes anderson's films are all boring and they all look the same
12/16/2015 11:57:46 AM
lot of awful directors ITT
12/16/2015 12:02:46 PM
i mean, none of them made classics like The Leprechaun, but we're dying to know your picks.
12/16/2015 12:48:33 PM
HAHAll of those directors are soooo mainstream. My picks are a little bit more underground, okay? Sorry some of us like movies that aren't Paul Blart Mall Cop, some of us have tastes.
12/16/2015 1:01:33 PM
Agreed. Nolan is underground AF.
12/16/2015 1:39:40 PM
Oh please Michael Bay is a godawful director[Edited on December 16, 2015 at 2:04 PM. Reason : He is mainly who I was referring to][Edited on December 16, 2015 at 2:04 PM. Reason : Also Tarantino is overrated as fuck][Edited on December 16, 2015 at 2:05 PM. Reason : Also fuck you jj abrams for the last season of LOST]

^ True, but Lost (post season 2) still sucked^^ I agree 100% with the ending of Lost sucking ass.[Edited on December 16, 2015 at 2:52 PM. Reason : .]
12/16/2015 2:52:12 PM
Season 2 was bad but the rest of Lost was dope (minus the last season)
12/16/2015 3:12:44 PM
people actually watched Lost?
12/16/2015 3:23:27 PM
Dude hating on Michael Bay, really?Obviously you haven't seen his best film, The Island, nor have you seen the amazingly huge box office gross of his slick Transformers AND Ninja turtles franchises! So the world is on my side on this one.
12/16/2015 3:35:58 PM
Regardless of who you think is a good director, I completely disagree with you and think that he/she is overrated and makes horrible movies.
12/16/2015 3:56:14 PM
Uwe Boll
12/16/2015 4:32:48 PM
^ definitely. a real shame they didn't keep him on for house of the dead 2. the first transcended all modern cinema.
12/16/2015 6:54:27 PM
seasons 1 and 2 of lost ruled and season 3 ruled because ben linus was just a fucker the whole time and then the last 3 seasons also ruled because they were such a fuckin mess
12/16/2015 8:00:46 PM

Tarantino? Really? Am I the only one out there who thinks that after RD, his movies are heaping piles of garbage? (With maybe the exception of Inglorious Basterds)
12/18/2015 9:18:24 AM
He's actually what prompted this thread[Edited on December 18, 2015 at 9:22 AM. Reason : lol you just called Pulp Fiction a "heaping pile of garbage"][Edited on December 18, 2015 at 9:23 AM. Reason : I think you dislike his subject material and his politics]
12/18/2015 9:21:14 AM
Come on synapse, that kind of ignorance should lead you to believe that I like his movies because of his retarded use of the "n" word. No, I just feel like in his later movies, he uses waaay too much dialogue. And I guess the one movie that is really dragging me down for him is the one with Stuntman Mike. That just really really soured me on him. And I realize that was a special type of movie, more of a homage to the 70's grindhouse flicks, but I still can't get it out of my head. That one cafe scene where the girls just rambled on for about 20 minutes. Ugh.I thought Django was ok. I think it was just too hyped up for me by the time I saw it.But I say heaping piles of garbage in comparison to how people feel about him. Nolan's movies are so much better, but he doesn't get the same kind of praise as Tarantino. So no, politics do not drive every decision or opinion I have in life.
12/18/2015 9:29:55 AM
I've enjoyed Darren Aronofky's work.
12/18/2015 9:53:51 AM
^^ You know, sometimes things are hyped to the extreme because they're extremely fucking good right? His movies are usually examples of that. It's unfortunate you're not able to see past the hype to appreciate them.
12/18/2015 9:57:00 AM
Django was probably one of his weaker ones yes, but Resevoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and Inglorious Basterds were great.
12/18/2015 10:02:08 AM
Now the Kill Bill movies, IMHO, are garbage.I really like the Coen brothers' work, but they've had some big misses too.Nolan just does it for me...it seems like he can make thought-provoking movies but at the same time not be afraid to be big-budget.
12/18/2015 10:21:01 AM
in what ways do you think they're garbage?it's fine to not like something, but garbage is a damn strong term
12/18/2015 10:43:42 AM
It's weird...I'm ok with the ridiculous violence in Basterds and Django, but there's just something about the violence in the Kill Bill movies that really rubbed me the wrong way. And I'm not saying that everybody else should think their garbage. I personally just thought they were really bad movies.
12/18/2015 11:20:49 AM
I also think the kill bill movies are awful
12/18/2015 12:37:01 PM
the kill bill movies are awesome for the fact that he basically went with an all girl bad-ass cast. And the black mamba was one of the greatest portrayals of a hero ever.
12/18/2015 1:58:48 PM
I enjoy the works of Aronofsky as well.
12/18/2015 11:16:30 PM
Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg too old?For me it's Christopher Nolan, Coen Brothers, and David Fincher (very underrated IMO).
12/19/2015 12:15:08 AM
kill bill is ok but I'd love to see him do a thing that's not a genre throwback. basterds was his least so since what, Jackie Brown? and it's probably my favorite post-90s of his. django is pretty solid. it handles on-black violence vs. on-white violence really well. all the slave deaths are horrifying while most of the owner/enforcer deaths are funny.
12/19/2015 12:45:45 AM
So does "our generation" just mean movies that came out bw 1990 and 2010ish?
12/19/2015 11:33:21 AM
Bttt
12/19/2018 2:23:50 AM
Alex Garland and Nolan
12/19/2018 10:32:50 PM
KB vol 1 doesn't really hold up that well, tbh. The action could have been filmed much better and the bride could have come off as more vulnerable.KB vol 2, however, is one of his best films. The drama and emotion worked into the characters, particularly ppl like bud, is very effective. And the "sword fight" in the trailer was pretty good comical action.just my thoughts though. I liked death proof because I think that it has one of his best villains, and I was not too impressed with the hateful 8, but I only saw it once in German.[Edited on December 21, 2018 at 11:47 AM. The Hateful Eight is probably the only Quentin Tarantino film that left me feeling disappointed after my first viewing.I enjoyed it a lot more after recently watching it a second time, although it probably helped knowing that Sheriff Chris Mannix was played by the actor who plays Uncle Baby Billy.Aside from that, I think the most disappointed I've been with a movie was after watching the Coen Brothers' A Serious Man.Aside from all of that, I'm pretty excited about seeing Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer on Friday.
