please for the love of god go see this movie so a terrible sequel to a terrible adaptation of a fucking videogame doesn't outperform an original property at the box office this weekend. if you're tired of sequels and reboots and superheroes then jesus christ vote with your wallet on saturday or sunday.also my friend wrote it lol.it's very heartwarming, romantic, and full of inventive deaths and things. there is some stoner-y humor but not an annoying amount. it's not treated like HUR HUR POT HUMOR EVERYWHERE OH MAN, it's just kind of there, which is cool. it has female characters that actually have characters. the cast is ridic. walton goggins is a revelation. buster bluth tony hale is mwah. kristen stewart is dope as hell. topher grace is pretty cool. connie britton is badass as shit. bill pullman's in it for a sec. johnny legz is good. i'm pretty positive leaning about jesse eisenberg as an actor i think. ok thank you.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1jOcp3JJmk[Edited on August 22, 2015 at 2:26 AM. to me it look like 46% to me.better to be divisive and garner strong opinions than squeak to a bland 80%+ based on many lukewarm positive reviews imo, *shrug*[Edited on August 22, 2015 at 2:37 AM. Reason : .]

please guys, think of the box office

ya. a sequel, a sequel, an adaptation-sequel-reboot, a reboot, and a biopic all beating a pretty decent at worst original major movie pushes further the death of actual ideas in hollywood. which seems like a bummer to me as a movie fan but maybe i'm in the minority.^^^i too find her rise from being meh in the twilight films to being pretty good in Adventureland to being widely-considered great in this and in Clouds of Sils Maria pretty lulzy or something.[Edited on August 22, 2015 at 1:55 PM. Jesse Eisenberg doesn't seem very believable as a CIA assassin.

are they twins? they look like siblings.

^^^ Fuck off. Hollywood hasn't had an original idea since the mid 1940s.Boohoo, we should all weep for the death of mediocre major studio film making. Maybe, just maybe they'll figure out that their current business model is unsustainable and make the appropriate changes to adapt to the way people are choosing to consume media and be able to continue existing. Or not, and we all miss out on important films like American Ultra and Deuce Bigelow.

wow, you mad? you think there were original movies in the forties if we're going to pull the "every story has been told" shit?I'm not calling a vigil. I'm recommending a cool movie that half of critics really like and respect (bigelow? come on) over the fantastic four three revisiteds of the world. it's pretty simple. if you'd prefer to be cynical and grumpy and in le wrong generation or whatever that 40's comment is, have at it. I'm all for small arty films but remotely fresh bigger budget things can be fun as fuck too and I'd like if they stopped becoming increasingly scarce.that's all!

man, for a dude who usually comes off as knowing his shit, that (^^) post is ignorant as fuckif anything, the studios have adapted to the times and their current model is pretty damn sustainablethat doesn't mean that's a good thing, but they know what they're doing when it comes to making money[Edited on August 22, 2015 at 6:43 PM. Fair enough.I'm just tired of fucked out premises like the one in this movie being touted as original.I see maybe 2 movies a year in theaters. There's just not much worth seeing anymore outside of things that are epic in scope and are best viewed on IMAX, otherwise I'd rather watch it at home if at all. The uptick in superhero movies is just because it's about the only source material that hadn't been milked dry already. Almost every novel that can be adapted has been adapted, every basic premise and trope has been used 40 times, etc.IMO, television/netflix/HBO is putting out much more quality than Hollywood now and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

the premise of this thread is like "support local hiphop over mainstream hiphop, even if my buddy's group fucking sucks, because, hey it's local!"havent seen the movie btw. But god dammit, buy an ad, or deal with criticism.[Edited on August 23, 2015 at 1:12 AM. Reason : .]

the premise of this thread is actually "here's a movie that I liked despite its subpar marketing and here's why it might be kind of good for moviegoers if things like this were more successful." I'm also aware that tdubbers are not going to make a box office difference, lol, which is why I'm confused by my generally lighthearted tone being met with actual frustration.... and divisive among critics means it sucks? wish I could unsee the life aquatic, wet hot american summer, antichrist, etc.and I've just expressed being bummed about like, fucking Hitman potentially doing slightly better than it which is widely regarded as being awful and worse, so, not sure why you think I'm pushing for shitty underground over solid mainstream.I've "dealt with criticism" by arguing back. what's the problem?^^ I see a lot in theaters, though I'm in NY with a cray selection of indie stuff. it's just refreshing to see something bigger being not based on a property, *shrug*. yeah yeah, it's bourne in fewer that six hours plus a 20-somethings relationship story and some pineapple express with less cliche pot humor, lion king is hamlet, etc.ok, I'll leave this thread alone if I'm annoying people, kisses [Edited on August 23, 2015 at 2:42 PM. All you people looking for originality in Hollywood, eat on this:http://www.nme.com/filmandtv/news/new-gremlins-movie-is-not-a-remake-or-reboot-says-/393891Yup.A new Gremlins movie. Why not? We've already milked the other heavy hitters from the 80's. What's left? E.T? They also keep teasing us with rumors of a new Goonies.

You're friends with Max Landis? Is he actually as big of a tool as he comes across in his interviews?
