That's pretty high. I think the mean in my honors calc 3 class was in the 50's.--Because I remember getting something in the upper 40's and still getting a B-. [Edited on July 17, 2015 at 11:42 AM. Reason : s]

Yea, well, the first exam I got back in college was Calc III and I did get a 57. Pretty sure a curve was involved though because I got an A somehow.[Edited on July 17, 2015 at 11:43 AM. Reason : asgasdg]

Yeah I remember plenty of MAE classes where the mean would be 28 or 42 or something.I also remember seeing a class there the grade distribution was 20% to each letter...I said "Sweet, only 40% Ds and Fs" and jumped on it, hahaha

Hmm. I don't know if I should feel better or worse here.

Sounds like CS7637 at gatech. I was getting 50s-70s and setting the curve on my exams. shit was insane

when I was a grad student teaching undergrad calculus, they advised us to aim for a class average of 60-70 'cuz if everybody gets 80s or 90s, there's not a lot of ground for distinguishing between the A's, B's and C's. and they only handed out A's, B's etc. to a certain percentage of students, so a pretty low class average was desirable. (I never really saw the point of only handing out A's to 15% of the kids, but whatever.)]

yep, that is some bullshit.set the standard, and then those that smoke it get As, and those who don't meet it get Fs.i hated that mentality in engineering classes...although at the same time, if 70% of the class gets a D or an F, something is amiss, and that happened. Like I said, a professor who only gave Ds and Fs to 40% was the section everyone fought to get into.[Edited on July 18, 2015 at 8:05 AM. Reason : ]
