So I just got hired at a new job. They are sending me to Kernersville for a week to train. I will be alone in a hotel, but probably go visit my friend in Greensboro at least once. I'll be working M-F 8 am to 5 pm for a week before heading home to Raleigh to start my job. Where should I go to have some fun?

Stop by musten & crutchfield for a lot of local/regional foods and sauces.

Also the movie theater in Kernersville charges $4/ticket and has new movies (currently showing minions, terminator, etc).

Otherwise, what Lipka said.

I live in Winston now and would recommend checking out:

4th St: Rec Billiards / Whiskey Box (Craft Cocktails at the WB), Foothills (IPAs), Corks Caps and Taps (hidden gem, wine & beer)

Trade St: Single Brothers (Craft Cocktails), Finnigans (largest beer selection in town), Silvermoon Saloon (Dive Bar), 6th and Vine (cougars)

If you want to get away from downtown Hoots (great craft brewery) and The Porch (excellent Tex Mex) in West End is a cool spot to spend the evening if all you are looking to do is food and a few brews.

When you finally return to Raleigh, you should probably...fuck your mother.

I just wanted to see the responses. Last time I traveled for work was when my old job sent me to Orlando for 2 days. I started a thread on here called, "Things to do in Orlando" and got some good responses (wise ass remarks).

Also, I am planning on going to Greensboro to hang out with a friend before they leave on vacation on Thursday.

Where are you going to be based out of, Chiraw? There's only one company that I know of that has a facility in Kernersville...

^The dealer I will be working at for a week has a location in Kernersville that I have to train at for a week before I get to work in Raleigh. There is more than one company in that town.

Second everything Lipka said about Winston, though I should add a few more:

Restaurants: Sweet Potatoes (southern/soul food), Kabobs on Fourth (Mediterranean), Quiet Pint (good burgers), First Street Draught House (also decent burgers), Mary's (great breakfast food; no dinner), Murphy's (BEST cheap breakfast/lunch; no dinner), Senior Bravos (Mexican), DiLisio's Italian Restaurant

Coffee: Krankie's, Camino Bakery, Twin City Hive

Bars: Quiet Pint, First Street Draught House, Small Batch, Burke St. Pub, Old Winston Social Club

Music Venues: Ziggy's, Garage, Bull's Tavern

Parks/Recreation/Historic: Bailey Park, Salem Lake, Old Salem

One of my old friends lives in Stokes County (they have a farm there and breed dogs) and I met them at some awful Chinese buffet last time I came through. They said the sushi was good but I don't trust that shit. It was in an old Ryan's.

Find out where that Ryan's went and go there for Steak Night. Then smoke crystal meth.

Doss's has good hot dogs and ice cream. And the Kernersville walmart is pretty decent.

The fact that it is worth mentioning tells you how little there is to do in Kernersville. Hit Winston or Greensboro if you actually want to do anything worthwhile.

How bad is parking near UNCG? Someone mentioned in my arcade thread that "Lost Ark" is pretty cool. And it looks like a micro brewery and Sonics are right there. I might go check that area out on Thursday just to have something to do.

With the Winston-Salem talk I am going to be a conference in downtown WS later this year and have been checking out things to do. Small Batch Beer is right across the street from the hotel so any thoughts on that place?

It's pretty good, IMHO. We tend to go on Thursday nights for pint night to get their special pint glasses that come out each month. They have a nice rotation of about 6-8 different draft beers they make in house that change up generally every 1-2 weeks (and plenty of various types craft bottles & cocktails). Percolator and Mr. Lemon Man are two of the mainstays (both have had special bottle releases), though they sometimes rotate out. You can view their website to see what's currently on tap & how much is roughly left -- http://smallbatchws.com/. The bar itself can get kinda crowded since it's not a huge space, but they've expanded their outdoor seating. It's also a fun place to see USA soccer matches.

I live on Spring Garden down the road from UNCG. Right now traffic and parking arent bad with school not in session. Jake's Billiards is probably the plade youre talking about, a good spot with a lively atmosphere, decent beer selection and good food. Lost Ark has a 5 dollar all you can play deal for arcade games and pinball. Its a cool area.

To the OP:

I think I was riding through Kernersville or Warsaw on the way back from Surf City and I saw signs everywhere that said 'Stop meth before you start' - so there you go!

^I think you're thinking of Kenansville.

And Duplin county has a huge meth problem so that doesn't really surprise me.

Oh yeah thats right, that's the place haha.

Duplin county has more copious amounts of single-wide trailers than I've ever seen in any county that I have been through.

And that's word.
