Way to go SCOTUS!!!
6/26/2015 10:09:34 AM
Conservatives are going to commit mass suicides.
6/26/2015 10:11:40 AM
Most younger conservatives don't mind this. The religious right who somehow hijacked what conservatism is will be pissed but who cares?
6/26/2015 10:19:54 AM
this is good news
6/26/2015 10:20:49 AM
^^^see^^^^exactly. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of stupidity on FB the next day or so [Edited on June 26, 2015 at 10:21 AM. Reason : ^][Edited on June 26, 2015 at 10:21 AM. Reason : ^^]
6/26/2015 10:21:13 AM
Hooray!
6/26/2015 10:23:16 AM
So when do all the ministers that pledged to set themselves on fire if gay marriage was legal get started, where is it, and can I watch?
6/26/2015 10:47:53 AM
A special thanks goes out to all the state gov that enacted these bans to force SCOTUS's hand.
6/26/2015 10:52:11 AM
get ready for some salty tearsshould be epic
6/26/2015 10:56:36 AM
Next up? Churches that don't offer religious ceremonies to gay folk.
6/26/2015 10:59:18 AM
very unlikely
6/26/2015 11:01:36 AM
Yay for the gays!I can't tell if I'm more excited for my friends who now get to enjoy the full legal benefits of marriage or for the inevitable backlash from conservatives which will be rife with stupidity. On Monday those lost their flag, and on Friday that lost the Gay Marriage debate.
6/26/2015 11:11:16 AM
6/26/2015 11:14:16 AM
You would be surprised. And I can sympathize. If you are gay, and consider yourself Christian, wouldn't you feel like an outcast if your religion, your church, didn't accept your wish to marry?Just like you can't stop being gay, if you truly have faith, you just can't switch a religion that fits your lifestyle.
6/26/2015 11:18:49 AM
6/26/2015 11:20:01 AM
if I were in the market to pick a religion (which I'm not), the persecution complex from Christians would be so off-putting (among everything else)
6/26/2015 11:25:56 AM
The government can't make a church marry anyone. And no one has grounds to sue if the church refuses. What's been controversial is marriage clerks at the courthouse who don't want to do their jobs because of 'sincerely held religious beliefs'. Bakers/florists/caterers who don't want to cover gay weddings is also an issue, but that's only in states with public accommodation laws that protect LGBT people (which doesn't include NC).
6/26/2015 11:26:36 AM
^^Just like how you don't pick who you love, most people don't pick who they worship.
6/26/2015 11:28:29 AM
6/26/2015 11:30:05 AM
^^ that is complete and utter bullshit
6/26/2015 11:31:25 AM
6/26/2015 11:33:17 AM
bruh...a gay Christian is like a transgender woman. you can hope to be one, but you won't be one no matter how hard you try. the rules are what they are. try to bend them all you want, but you're actually breaking them. wanting to get married under Christian rules as a gay puts everybody involved in a false state of authenticity.
6/26/2015 11:36:00 AM
How is that an idiotic response? I don't support that flag, but I'm certainly conservative. The only ignorance is applying that stereotype to a large group of people. And tgl, it is only bullshit to you because you don't believe in religion period. Correct? I seem to remember posts by you talking about how you are an atheist. If I'm wrong, please correct me, but of course you would think it is BS if you're an atheist.
6/26/2015 11:37:24 AM
it's an ideal nature vs. nurture argumentnobody is born religious. it's a completely learned behavior.
6/26/2015 11:39:39 AM
6/26/2015 11:40:02 AM
And any of us don't choose the manner of the "nurture." But nature vs nurture arguments go nowhere, so I'll stop.I'm still wondering how I'm the idiot here when you have someone applying a gross generalization to people that isn't true.
6/26/2015 11:41:25 AM
but you can opt outthat's the difference
6/26/2015 11:42:29 AM
Because your first response is to scream insults.Just because you are conservative and don't view the flag as something that represents you doesn't change the fact that for decades conservatives have used the flag as a symbol of "heritage"I don't seem to remember anyone else decrying its removal. Also, you keep confusing Faith and Religion. But keep going with the insults, that lost round gave me a semi.
6/26/2015 11:44:18 AM
at the most churches who have own property with public access may be forced to allow gay marriages at those places if they allow other marriages there, but this court decision will have little to do with that. inside the church there is no reason to believe that a church can be forced to marry someone, and there is plenty of precedent saying that they can't or won't be forced.
6/26/2015 11:46:29 AM
i was raised as a baptist.once i came to the conclusion that i didn't believe, i chose to no longer identify as a christian. i never chose to find women attractive.
6/26/2015 11:48:34 AM
That wasn't the argument I was trying to make. I actually stated earlier that you can't choose who you love. I was also saying that for many people, they didn't choose who they worship, even if it was due to "nurture."
6/26/2015 11:55:15 AM
i still don't understand. once they get old enough to think for themselves, they are choosing who they worship.
6/26/2015 11:56:43 AM

6/26/2015 11:59:49 AM
Yeah this argument makes no sense. Of course you choose who/how to worship.
6/26/2015 12:01:40 PM
Paging burro
6/26/2015 12:46:34 PM
But they put so much effort into stopping it. What with all the Chic Fil A sandwich eating and whatnot.lol
6/26/2015 12:52:24 PM
6/26/2015 12:52:33 PM
I was rooting for this. I'm so happy for all the folks who I know (and those who I don't) who are now able to marry who they want without the government trying to butt in. (ideally the government would get out of the marriage business all together.)
6/26/2015 12:54:28 PM
I mean in the end marriage is simply a legal contract between two people shouldnt matter who those people are. Why this has been a debate for so long I dont understand. Seperation of church and state and what not. Now I also agree churches should be allowed to marry who they want and refuse who they want. Businesses involved in the marriage business should be allowed to turn people away if it goes against their beliefs if they want to. I dont think its right but they should be allowed to, as its their business to do as they please.
6/26/2015 1:04:57 PM
Because separation of church and state does not exist.
6/26/2015 1:05:30 PM
well the supreme court has consistently used that term, and those words are how the founding fathers described the intent of relevant text in the bill of rights.

glad this is finally settled and we can move on to something that actually affects us. of course, abortion was settled decades ago and politicians still waste ridiculous amounts of time and money fussing about it.
6/26/2015 4:01:12 PM
6/26/2015 4:30:22 PM
that is really an awful analogy of course they're Christians
6/26/2015 4:33:27 PM
ITT, a bunch of atheists know exactly what it's like to be Christians.
