Better than creating a new thread every game:Syndicate TrailerI've always loved the cinematic trailers that come out at E3.I enjoyed the hell out of Black Flag, but still have Unity sitting on my shelf since all the early bugs made it close to unplayable.London during the Industrial Revolution looks to be an interesting setting, and the hook grapple mechanic could add a lot to traversal. All-in-all interested enough to give this a shot.

Bumping my own shit. Skipped Syndicate and Origins, but picked up Odyssey. This game is awesome if you're a fan of The Witcher series (especially III). Aside from some of the stealth mechanics it feels nothing like an AC of old combat-wise.World is H-U-G-E, though a lot of that is admittedly open water. Ship battles are back however, so Black Flag folks will be happy.Mercenary system feels a bit like a lite version of the Nemesis system (from Shadow of War).All-in-all I'm really enjoying this so far.

I can't support a full price AAA game with MTX.

I don't know what those acronyms mean.

triple A = big release from a major game studioMTX = microtransactions

Oh no! The last major Assassin's Creed game I played was Revolution on the PS3. I don't remember microtransactions. A game like this has them?

The series has changed significantly since then. It's no longer an open world action adventure game, it's a full blown action RPG now with skill trees, dialogue choices, and a Diablo style loot system.I won't defend the microtransactions in AC because they are some bullshit, but I will say that unlike the recent Shadow of War where apparently spending money on lootboxes was necessary to prevent having to grind the endgame, AC: Odyssey seems to actually be balanced for no XP boost type MTX. Doing most but not all of the story sidequests but not grinding at all I still find myself to be outpacing the recommended levels about 2/3 of the way through the game.

I had even forgotten that they had MTX. I got a couple of the 'free' bonus ship skins and lieutenants on the Ubisoft store but that was it. To be honest, if you chase after even half of the discover-able areas in a zone you'll never need to worry about being out-leveled or out geared to progress the story. I'm mid-20s already and only just starting to dick around in Athens.

I've thought about picking Odyssey up, but Red Dead 2 comes out later this month. Plus a new kid on the way and I'm trying to talk the wife into a Nintendo Switch, so there's a lot on the plate.

The "new" fighting system in Odyssey is actually the same as Origins. Odyssey is definitely more of a venture into the RPG world than Origins, but you could tell from Origins that was the way they were heading. (So note: If you like Odyssey, Origins is definitely worth picking up) I'm a little ways into Odyssey and really enjoying it. The Mercenary system is good and the story so far has been really enjoyable. Right now I'm torn between doing story missions, side missions, and just exploring the areas that I am the appropriate level to venture into. In regards to MTX...they're completely optional and mainly just skins, so why be upset about that? It's for people with cash to blow and want something like a Pegasus skin for their horse. It's not adding anything to the game mechanics and if people want to level up faster or whatever, by all means let them. I've never played any aspect of the multiplayer for any AC game and I have no intention to. I love the single-player and I avoid the MTX, it's still highly enjoyable.

Skins I don't care about, but XP boosts do change the mechanics. And I've heard it can become a grindfest without them. It's ridiculous to have this shit in a single player, full price game. I might play it when it's cracked.[Edited on October 18, 2018 at 10:36 AM. Reason : .]

^Depends on what your goals are. I want a $60 purchase to take me 60-70 hours to finish, so I'm expecting to have to do a bunch of side-missions to finish the game. I'm not interested in a $60 game that takes 20 hours to finish the single-player portion. I'm going to be fine grinding out XP to be able to move to the next area on the map.

^^ I'm only about halfway through the game so I can't guarantee it doesn't change by the end, but it really depends on what you consider "grind"If you want to move straight from one main quest to the next until the story is done, then yeah you might consider it a grindfest because you can't really do that. But if you do most of the sidequests, and I'm just talking about the unique sidequests (gold exclamation points on the map) with voice acting, cutscenes, and story arcs; then you don't have to grind at all.

fair enough, thanks for the info!
