They probably ran off to avoid a ticket for not properly securing their load and a lawsuit from all the people who will inevitably tear up their cars as a result of their mistake.

That actually happened over the weekend. Someone lost a mattress and box spring on 40...Mattress went off to the side, but the box spring splattered all over the middle two lanes.
